| I didn't bother reading all the responses to this song, but I used to think this song might be about a guy who's got some kind of crush on another popular guy in high school. I think I was trying to over analyze this. Now I believe that Brandon Flowers is just singing the song from a woman's point of view and this song is like a letter that she wrote. She has a big crush on a guy, and thats why there's the part about "in a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world."- I think she's jealous cuz she wants to be that girl. Maybe she's friends with the guy or maybe she's just an admirer from a distance. Just a thought | |

I think everyone is wrong about this song. To me he's talking about having sex, not starting a relationship. "I'm gonna pull you in close gonna wrap you up tight gonna play with the braids that you came here with tonight I'm gonna hold your face and toast the snow that fell because friends don't waste wine when there's words to sell"-painting a scenario of what he's going to do when he gets her alone. Kissing away her fears. And friends don't waste wine is talking about not wasting the mood. "if you don't trust yourself for at least one minute each day well you should trust in this girl cause loving is coming our way"- He's telling her that if she never trusts her feelings, now is the time. Again trying to convince her to sleep with him. "It takes a long time just to get this all straight I'll showcase on route 7 when i find the right place"- It takes time for it all to pan out, but he'll be ready for a long night of love making soon as he finds the right "showcase"-hotel.
