The Strokes – Automatic Stop Lyrics 20 years ago
wow, i never thought such a limited amount of people could write so many interpretations that ALL SAY PRETTY MUCH EXACTLY THE SAME THING.
and with the (vaguely) recent release of the video for "juicebox" I think the interpretations about the "he wanted me" line is a little harsh. Julian casablanca is a good looking guy. I'm sure plenty of open and confused teenage boys have wanted him. the strokes are gay friendly. so why has this line been so over-analysed?
its a good song. its catchy, it has a good hook, its about something most people living in a city when they're young go through (I'm not going to explain, I think the other interpretations cover that), and i think its inteeresting that a band that so many people have gone through phases of likeing (that is, they like one album but not the others), has a song about phases passing.

i love this song. well, i love pretty much all their stuff. what can I say, i blindly love the strokes. the bass line is insanely amazing.
now for my video assesment: entertaing. i think this is their way of saying "just get some, we don't care what way you swing!" i good message, i think. though i was watching video on trial for this video (a Much Music program), and what they said about the scene in the guys washroom was too funny not to repeat: "if i got a message back that said he was wearing white shoes Id write back and say I didn't know where he was. why not puma's? those shoes look horrible!
and what I'd really like to know, is how did they get each other's phone numbers? is there some number to call that messages the phone nearest to you that i'm unaware of?

Death Cab for Cutie – Styrofoam Plates Lyrics 20 years ago
I can't believ there's this many posts for this song. No one will ever take the time to read all of these, so this shall most likely go unread, but this song is... powerful. I can't say anything remotely like this ever happened to me, but this song... is incredable. I'm completely anti-emo, but this song actually made me cry a few times. don't tell.

Death Cab for Cutie – Why You'd Want to Live Here Lyrics 20 years ago
i think this song is so utterly great. Its just so fucking funny, I'm planning on making a playlist for all the songs about how L.A. blows. and this song's name will be the title of it.
ok, that was a bad "what does this song mean to me". well, It really catches your attention. its just so... poppy but sarcastic and funny and witty and great. think jack black describing evil dead 2 in high fidelity. that is my description of this song. Its so fucking good.

Death Cab for Cutie – I Was a Kaleidoscope Lyrics 20 years ago
I first liked this song because of the "my teeth chatered rhythms" because (I'm from toronto, it gets cold) mine do that when I'm walking to class and its -25 celcius (really freeking cold). the rest of the song just fits in in this really smooth and surreal way.
I, however, am disappointed by how many people don't have/ know this album! ever since plans came out, no one goes back further than transatlantisism. This album is full of great songs. back-buy people, back-buy.

Death Cab for Cutie – Earth Angel (The Penguins cover) Lyrics 20 years ago
via the stubbs the zombie soundtrack (an odd and awesome soundtrack to a strange video game), I first listened to death cab. I was one of those people who was anti-death cab because of... well, I'm not sure exactly. I usually listen to punk, so this was a bit of a stretch. but now, I love them.
this is a great song in its original, but this is a great cover as well. enough of the same with enough of their own spin to it.

Less Than Jake – Soundcheck Lyrics 20 years ago
this song, along with the Rancid song "Radio" is how, in a few short lines, I feel about music. Music is there for you no matter what. There's always a song that can express how you feel and another one to make you feel better when everything has gone to hell. it takes you back to things you barely remember and is the soundtrack of your life. Just think about whatever song you have stuck in your head when you're walking to school, or zoning out in class or at work or wherever and then think about how important it is that music is right there with you, all the time, all day long, no matter what. It may sound cheezy, but that's comforting and it really can "pick you off the ground" and give you "a place to go" (in your head or whatever).

Less Than Jake – Mixology Of Tom Collins Lyrics 20 years ago
these lyrics are, i think, some of the most oddly profound ltj lyrics out there. why? because most people don't get them. most people don't or can't see how they've changed. they think either changing is the end of who they are, or they're dying to change and never change back. i love tht this song goes the extra step of saying even though you know you've changed, its ok not to overanalye it because things are what they are and it can drive you crazy to think about it all the time ( and i think my interpretation might be longer than the song... damn my long winded-ness)

i can't believ only 3 ppl commented on this song! this is the first ltj song i ever heard. i can actually say that this song changed my life. I wouldn't have been the same person had i ltj not gotton me into the punk scene in my town, etc., and just listening to them... well, it made all the difference (robert frost poem: two roads diverged in the wood and i took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference. Less than jake was my difference). good lyrics, good song, tear for no horns, but hey, and the best song title ever. (esp good in charades)

Less Than Jake – Big Crash Lyrics 20 years ago
such a fucking good song! its one of those songs you repeat in your head when someone totally bashes everything that makes you you. and i like that there's actually a song that isn't shy about not believing in "anyone or anything" i definately know how that feels, and i know how hard it is to defend yourself against all the bombardment of opinions throughout you life esp. your teen years. oi
to sk8erpez: my high schools quote was "time goes by so fast, in a blink of an eye so never close your eyes" from last hour of the last day of work but the line you used ran a close second. i appreciate that someone else used one of their lines in their yearbook. -K

Less Than Jake – Last Hour of the Last Day of Work Lyrics 20 years ago
i read ska4life84's comment and i know exactly how s/he feels. that song... i can't even describe it. I sing it in my head during the last hour of every shitty job i have ever worked (there have been many. can anyone say car factory?) and that line "time goes by so fast..." is just, wow. I have it on my wall. I want it tatood on my back (i know that sounds extreme, but its a line that has been my moto for... well, since i first heard it about a month after borders and boundaries came out). that line is how i try to live my life. its such a music geek thing to say, but lines like this from songs and bands like this are why i am who i am. that's how important this song is to me. and i never thought something as, well, simple as this song and this line, could be such a huge part of my life... something so many people just don't get

Less Than Jake – History Of A Boring Town Lyrics 20 years ago
this is my all time favourite less than jake song. this song is everything i hav worked my entire life to avoid. being a townie is my biggest fear. this song is exactly what i want to avoid, and so far i have. i was the first one to leave. i don't hang out with the same old crwd... actually i'm not even friends with most of them anymore. but ths song reminds me about high school and all the neuroses that go along with it and all the hopes and dreams that get dashed between highschool and the "real world"

Less Than Jake – Gainesville Rock City Lyrics 20 years ago
this song is, i know, so typical to love, but its just something that everyone can relate to. its honest, which is rare. as much as i love ska, alot of it is about kinda stupid stuff, and i like that a band as good and as respected as less than jake can write songs about something more substantial without losing their roots

Less Than Jake – Awkward Age Lyrics 20 years ago
i like what the other comments say... its just true. this song is the soundtrack for when i write... it just says what it means without all the complications and confusions (ironic since it talks about being confused), and it reminds me of my own parents, who could never make up their minds about what i was and wasn't allowed to do when i was 16
