| Barenaked Ladies – Testing 1, 2, 3 Lyrics | 9 years ago |

Lyric correction: We recognize the present As half as pleasant As our nostalgia for A past that we resented Recast and reinvented Until it's how we meant it |

@[ELS24:5916] 'Hair shirt' is an idiom: "if someone wears a hair shirt, they choose to make their life unpleasant by not having or experiencing anything that gives them pleasure" (http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/a+hair+shirt) Makes perfect sense for this wonderful song. |

| Laura Marling – Saved These Words Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| See the lyrics for 'Love Be Brave': "Silence speaks for me" -- it's 'dumb'. | |
| Sigur Rós – Vaka Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I agree. Also, to me, it sounds like, "You sat her on the fire." Which is weird, but i go with it. |
|
| Rilo Kiley – Breakin' Up Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I just love the last verse... "Betrayal is a thorny crown You wear it well Just like a king" He betrayed her in some way. "Revenge is the saddest thing Honey, I'm afraid to say You deserve everything" She's wants/is getting her revenge. |

| Sinch – Plasma (cd Version) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"I don't want to hide the truth, but I can see you through jaded eyes my faded broken gaze It strays away, and I am afraid that I'll make mistakes I'll always regret" This verse says to me that she hurt him, and now his is beginning to notice other people. But he's afraid of sleeping with someone else while he's still with her and ruining what they have forever. So he's making a clean break with the possibility that they make get back together again. |

kate272; the lyrics in the book that came with my CD say "it's like we'll never stop" - and it sounds pretty clearly like that's what he's singing, too. And i'd like to add that upallnight is spot on. |

| Laura Marling – Alas, I Cannot Swim Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| She's ultimately saying live life and have fun; jump in the river & learn to swim for things you want, but don't spend all your time working to earn money. The real "gold" is enjoying your life. | |
| Dum Dums – Mr Executive Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I love it. | |
| Always Outnumbered – Never Let Go Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The album is called "until tomorrow" | |
| Bush – Letting The Cables Sleep Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I've not read what everyone else has said, but these lines sum it up for me: "Whatever you say it's alright Silence is not the way We need to talk about it" No matter how bad things get, they need to be talked about. In the video they use a deaf woman to metaphorically symbolise silence. It's so beautiful. |
|
| Bush – Dead Meat Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"It's hard to get along in this car crash weather" I just love that line. Not sure what the song's about, but the idea that there's 'car crash weather' just tickles me. |

| Bush – Altered States Lyrics | 17 years ago |

"one of those indecipherable bush songs that regardless of thier hidden meaning, can still rock." I love that i'm not the only one. x |

| Bush – Prizefighter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| P.S. I'd rather forgotten how much i loved Bush | |
| Bush – Prizefighter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
blinkbomber- yea, i see that.. and also... it's like he's talking to someone, maybe?: "Think that's strange Well that's the waste of you" and "I will always know you, you're a special one" and "Sad you're not around" and more. Maybe for personal reasons i see it more as him saying to someone "I've yet to become the person that i'm going to be, and that scares me sometimes. You might not be there when i do, but i', going to be someone great" I also think it's looking back at someone/others.the world because of this line: "I thought you all were beautiful It doesn't make sense, sense, sense" ; he's become better than them, now. |

"how can you beat rhyming "stroll the gravel" with "silver tassels"?" amen. |
|
| The Magnetic Fields – Reno Dakota Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I absolutely love the rhymes in this song. Recluse/Excuse being my favourite. Good stuff. |
|
| Aberfeldy – Helioplis By Night Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
For me there are two interpritations of this song. One. The literal reading of the song; he was abducted by friendly aliens. Two. 'Heliopolis' is a... dream world (for want of a better term). In dreams everything can be as wonderful as he describes Heliopolis to be. |

| Penfold – Amateur Standing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i love this song. i think it is my most favourite song. to me it's about not letting others judgements of you keep you down and hold you back, because you're always worth more than what others might or might not think of you. |

| Jenny Lewis – Rabbit Fur Coat Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I believe the 'rabbit fur coat' is pride. There's not much to explain about it. It just fits with the song so well. Especially the end: "But when i sell out and leave omaha what will i get? A mansion house and a rabbit fur coat" The mansion house is the wealth; the rabbit fur coart is the pride. The fact that the album it's self was named "Rabbit Fur Coat" says a lot. |

| Rilo Kiley – It's a Hit Lyrics | 19 years ago |

"cause no one wants to pay to see your happiness No one wants to pay to see your day to day" That should be HER happiness and HER day-to-day. |
|
| Aberfeldy – What You Do Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Simply a beautiful love song. | |
| Aberfeldy – Tie One On Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| "Tie one on" code for 'masturbation'? | |
| Barenaked Ladies – I'll Be That Girl Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
i can't believe no one has picked up on this line: "Perhaps as you I’ll be worth noticing" This girl is far too wrapped up in her self to notice the guy. |
|
| Rilo Kiley – Always Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The first time i heard this song i thought the part about his middle name being 'always' was about him being Mr Right (as in Always Right). But i'm not so sure anymore. I can see this song in two ways. I can see it being a song about the fact she'll always love him even though it didn't work out. I can see it in a way that she will always love him, in a pretty much straight forward love song way. I'm not sure what they actually mean with song, but i'm pretty good at making a song mean whatever i want it to for myself. And i always prefer the happier interpritation! |
