dont tread on me is the libertarian motto. a lot of libertarians think things like drug use should be legalized and governed by the people. in other words libertarians belive drugs are a victimless crime and doing drugs only hurts yourself and that should not be illegal. basically this song is about the legalization of pot. it's funny because a lot of 311 fans are liberals not libertarians, and they are on the oppisite ends of the political spectrum. |

This song is about Dick Cheney and a friend going quail hunting, Dick Cheney shooting his friend in the face with a shot gun, and the friend having a heart attack while Dick Cheney feels guilty about it but dosen't feel guilty about sending a thousand troops he wasn't friends with to Iraq to suffer similar pain and not feeling guilty about that.

A guy got the drip from a girl he liked and she didn't like him back. He had un-protected sex with her and now he has a constant reminder of how he didnt use a condom. These cats are all about some safe sex. I went to a Murphy's Kids show and they were handing out condoms with a little message on it that said "wrap it up or pack it up", no joke. This song is so freaking sweet live. |

i think the punk rock version represents him shooting up the heroin and it being crazy feeling of the high and not so concerned about dying from it and the slow accoustic version is after the high is over and the depression and shame sets in and feeling guilty for himself. The most emotional part when he strikes that last dissenent chord on the guitar with some out of key notes to make it sounds like he just died then. |
