This song always reminds me of my ex boyfriend, he was the homecoming king and the huge football star whom everybody loved. He wasn't really a bad guy but i don't think he'll ever get any better. High school will always be the best years of his life, the years he was in charge and respected. It will be sad for him to realize at our ten year reunion when we'll all meet again that everyone else has moved on. |

Still, he makes the lifestyle sound appealing and kind of seductive I mean theres no harm in living like that even if it is a litle backwards and fake (un nessacary if your rich) its still cute. |

The "I climbed a hill..." part reminds me of Walden or some Transendenalist thing. Not really relevant just a thought and the "You are too young to put all of your hopes in just one envelope." line really hits home for someone who is applying to college, there's so much pressure to get accepted and sometimes kids are forced to put all there hopes in just one envelope. |

To me, this song is about two people, Hilary who tries to find herself through spirituality or believing in God and Saints or a minister or a pretty church. Ultimately, these beliefs don't help her, only she can give herself meaning. Apparently she doesn't realize her own potential because she, like Anthony kills herself. It seems clear to me that the song is saying that having outer (church) faith does no good unless you have inner (self) faith. |
