This has got to be one of the most depressing songs I've ever heard. The whole thing about a soldier leaving for vietnam, then writing a letter that says he "won't be able to write for a while", and then you never hear from him again...that's just so damn sad. Maybe what makes it even more sad is that you know that this kind of thing happened all the time (and I guess still happens today). But I must admit it is a beautiful song, musically, but it's just really depressing. |

For anyone in a serious relationship with a significant other, this song can have many, very powerful meanings, and naturally everyone can interpret it differently. Of course there's the obvious passion/lovemaking meaning, but actually for me it meant more than just that. It was like if you truly love someone, you're willing to do anything/go anywhere/give up everything just to be with the one you love ("I would runaway with you..."). Maybe I'm misinterpreting what Andrea's singing about but hey, we're all entitled to our own opinions. :-p |
