I made a Connor Oberst mix tape for my mom, and this song was on it, and i started really listening to it, and for the frist time i noticed how near the end he sounds a lot closer than most of the song. like a boomgerang. Are you the love of my lifetime 'Cause there's been times I've had my doubts We were just kids when I first kissed you In the attic of my parents' house And I wish we were there now I took so long to figure out What this book has been about i can realate to this song very well, from the girl's point of veiw. i'm still waiting to see what happens with my story. and, is this girl, that Connor sings about, that he kissed in an attic (who obviously had an impact on him) also Laura? I haven't read everyone's input, but, I would like to think it's Laura and Connor has some kind of first-love soulmate. |

It's the last song, and if you wait, about 5:10 into the song, there is a looping message, and part of it says, "Never to see any other way." It's a good song anyways. |

on the first page i saw someone that wrote "corn rows" instead of "they call them rogues" well, actually, most of azure emily's lyrics are off by alot. anyways, my best friend and i used to be obsessed with this song, and we used to dicuss the meaning of the lyrics. i'm going to have to try and remember exactly how we came up with this, but we concluded that this song was about suicide. okay, here i go. The whole cd is basically a sarcastic poem about how great jesse is. Like in #4, Okay, I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't: I am heaven sent. Don't you dare forget. okay, well now that that point is made, lets look at Play Crack The Sky. (Which IS actually Play Crack The Sky) We sent out the SOS call. It was a quarter past four in the morning when the storm broke our SECOND ANCHOR LINE. Four months at sea.Four months of calm seas only to be pounded in the shallows off the tip of montauk point. Okay, second anchor line, they're last attempt at the relationship, which apparently was only good for four months. then again it doesn't take four months to fall in love. They call them rouges, they travel fast and alone. One hundred foot faces of God's good oceans gone wrong.What they call love is a risk, cause you will always get hit out of nowhere by some wave and end up on your own.The hole in the hull defied the crews attempts to bail us out. And flooded the engines and radio and half-buried bow. So, there is obviously no way of making it through this blow to the relationship, whatever it is. And an ocean, which probably stands as a metaphor for live here, is something that is supposed to be good, but when it goes wrong it goes terribly wrong. Your toungue is a rudder. It steers the whole ship. sends your words past your lips or keeps them safe behiund your teeth.(personally my favorite line) but the wrong words will strand you. come off course while you sleep.sweep your boat off to see, or dashed to bits on the reef. the vessel groans, the ocean pressures it's frame. off the port i see the lighthouse through the sleet and the rain. It seems like he's going back and fourth between this is the dead end, and this is getting worse and worse. It is probably getting worse because of whatever happened. And I wish for one more day to give my love and repay debts, but the morning finds out bodies washed up thirty miles west. They say that the captain, stays fast with the ship, through still and storm. But this ain't the doakota, and the waters cold.we wont have to fight for long. So, the boat they are riding is "love" and all this happened, and he regrets not being all that he could be to save it, but he also indicates that staying in it is useless because it will die anyways. This is the end. This story's old but it goes on and on until we dissapear. Calm me and let me taste the salt you breathed while you were underneathe. I am the one who haunts your dreams of mountains sunk below the sea. I spoke the words but never gave a thought to what they all could mean. I know that this is what you want. A FUNERAL KEEPS BOTH OF US APART. You know that you are not alone. Need you like water in my lungs. basically: This is the end of the relationship. This will happen over and over again to us until we die. calm me down and let me taste the tears while you were upset. i am the one who causes you to be so depressed. i said i loved you but i never really thought about what it meant. i know you want this to end too. a funeral, the death of a relationship, keeps us a part. you are not the only one that i have left like this. i don't really need you. the thing my friend and i always thought was about suicide, was the line about being underneath, and the funeral. we thought that the loss of him had caused her to committ suicide, and the being underneath part, excuse me for being graphic, was after she had slit her wrists in a bathtub, and was underneath the water. the salt in the water was her tears. now a funeral keeps both of them apart, and it's what she wanted because she was in so much pain, and that she is not the only one who had done that. |

Gravitated towards a taste for forgien films and moderns plays. He meets a girl that is interested in forgein films and modern plays, a "square." But that machine could only bend to squares five to six times. He is the "machine" that can only handle it so many times. There was this game we played as a kid where you had to see how many times you could fold a peice of paper in half (squares) and the most we could ever do it was six times. I don't know if this was just something at my school, but it always made me think of that. but if that is being referenced, the Before your fingers came unwired part makes sense. she could only put him through that so many times until she gave up. weights down so that you can move forwards he might have been a burden to her, so he's letting her free, lighting the burden so she can get on with life. Pinch to snub that restless nerve And knock the wind from one last urge With two fingers a rock glass obviously drinking something on the rocks to dull the feelings he has for her, and the pain of losing her. Time passed and that was that Quite a slip (a loosened grasp) time went on and he started to feel less and less for her, but it was quite a person to lose because of different lifestyles. what a way to cut lengthwise i either think that with this line he is actually referencing suicide, as in that it was so painful to get out of this relationship, that to get into it in the first place was suicidal, and he's expressing the pain, and regret. or he's referencing the paper folding ordeal again, folding squares. i doubt it but i might as well put it out there, i wonder if anyone actually knows what i'm talking about when i say the paper folding game, well, try it. take a regular peice of paper and fold it in half hamburger style the whole time until you can't anymore. six times i tell you! okay i'm done. happy january 24th. i'm writting this while i'm supposed to be studying for finals. that's just my opinion |

| this is also the first coheed song i ever heard, i downloaded it because this guy i liked had it in his profile. and honestly it's been over a year and a half and up till now i had no idea what this song was really saying. i would always just sing something close to what i thought was going on, but i really like this song. but now, with reading these comments i'm getting the distinct impression that there is a coheed and cambria sci-fi story that the band made up. which if i'm right, or just dyslexic, makes it a ton better. i love disifering (spelling?) lyrics, and this song holds a lot of memories, and hey now i actually know what's going on. yayy. | |
