semi-politcal love song? Ending sounds as if to suggest to take drugs to escape from the horrible situations of the world.....which I don't necessarily agree with doing. |

Only have heard the song a few times, but the most obvious (imo) thing in the song is the chorus "only smooth chords on the car radio" and when they say "locked outside the public eye". There saying they'll never be seen by the majority of people because of their style or punk in general...... |

Looks to me like a song about a woman who marries a rich man to stay with her rich lifestyle "married your daddy with a different last name". But she regrets it and becomes bored sexually "every time you look at him you could just fall asleep", then she finds more pleasure in pain "you say your pain is better than any kind of love". This last line also suggests the fact that the 'pain' is an instant gratification (in her case) while love is something that can be very confusing and hard to come by, since she has never experienced true love, she takes her pleasure in pain.

I agree with some users above with the meaning to this song...It's a really good song, I love it.....but JesusBeard, if all you want to do is flame, don't post here. By the way, what is your definition of "real punk"??? I mean if the bands that shaped the genre nearly 30 yrs ago isn't 'real' then I don't know what is.....?!? |

Take a look at the title, "Vicinity of Obscenity". Now basically everyone has came to the conclusion the song is about sex, which is what it's about.....sort of. With the lyric "Banana, banana, banana, teracotta pie", I believe SOAD is just trying to make a point that something that completely random can be taken in an offensive manor, hence the "Vicinity of Obscenity". Everything and anything can be taken wrong, it's just how you interpret it. |
