i love this song..its beauty is beyond words... so powerful wow onto the meaning... well i think u guys said it all my take on it... i think its about the plea for help, the plea for forgiveness after a series of unfortunate events..the longing to be innocent again, the longing to be pure again.. i think that the singer has done something to a person he never meant to hurt, who means the world to him...'Do you feel hollow when you think of how I've lied?'... but cant take it back, and the other person cannot find it in her/his heart to forgive the singer... the Jesus references in the song are all connected with death i believe...the singer is so...well..hopeless and depressed..not knowing how to make things right. not knowing how to receive forgiveness (see further reference in title of song) that he finds his only hope or escape (title..!!) is ..God/Jesus. something greater than life itself.sortathing i think the singer said that he went home...that he either died or killed himself. he heard a voice through the dischord (the noise) a gaze frozen in time (someone holding a grudge over him, not letting go of something. judgemental eyes) he will never fail to love the person he hurt he will never forget her/him he will never stop thinking about them but he needs to go home. to feel pure. to feel whole. to end the suffering consequences of his mistake. the 'hey unloving, i will love u'and the 'unfaithful' might be God's words to him, giving him hope or his last words to the person he loves but knows has to leave for both their sakes amazing song =] |

you guys pretty much have the meaning...just wanna comment because this song....well...i love it..:P i love the simplistic yet powerful lyrics...it seems that in the relationship a past event, wether caused by the singer/writer or not doesn't really matter, has turned the other into a bitter and depressed character. the two had a loving and caring relationship until some point when the other could not 'fly'or 'soar 'anymore, because of his/her sorrow. every little thing the singer does agitates the depressed one and he/she finds that everything the singer does is wrong... for some reason the person gets even more depressed his sorrow never lets him/her go --- it comes and grinds the persons mind, mentally makes them weak, like a locomotive, the sorrow comes, bringing with it painful memories etc. the person exerts this negative energy making the writer feel like they can not fly or soar with them around. the writer has enough and thinks that the relationship has made them into worse versions of themselves, he is sick of it, not wanting to be in the relationship anymore (outgrown the horsehair sweater) the stiffer the horsehair the better the quality of it.- the longer it lasts..in other words their relationship didnt have long lasting "horsehair" (lol) ....anyway because of the other persons lack of energy in life...depression and whatnot he cannot count on him/her...he cannot open up to the person because everyday seems like a struggle....a struggle of not making the other person cry..feel more depressed etc. therefore its better for them to part ways.. the way this song is built is also phenomanal.and relates to the lyrics..the first part is the start of it all (everything is fine, he soars flies, but then...)..then he contemplates telling the person about the way he feels and sees things...+(guitar bit with oh ah's= his guilt, desire to escape,,,wanting to help the other person and himself) then the silence and the melodic ending ( the silence before the 'storm' when he tells her/him)..and then suddenly the shock of the actual ending between the two..in the end it has proven to be the only way to stop the pain... |

These are my 2 cents... 'Take this for what its worth, this song... my smile,' take this song literally...its my my heart bleeding, my smile gone, the memories of us that i want to fade... ' I write to you from hell my song leaving the foot against the gas and the wall that must have said your name, ' this says that the break-up has made him very sad.and miserable, he is in hell, loveless and hopeless...this goes to shows in his words ' foot against the gas/wall thatt must have said your name' he is so heartbroken and down that he thinking about getting into a car, full gas, and crashing into a wall. because he loved the person and the person was his only reason for living. 'Weaken you from nothing you can say can stop this now, would a noose replace his lips? ' he is getting further and further away from th person he was with and he asks himself...will suicide (by means of noose) replace his lips, take away the pain of loss i feel..and so on.. 'Can a song replace a broken heart? Can a song replace a broken love? On the beach I remind myself how holding hands is so powerless, tonight I don't even have the stars to hold on to... ' Is it possible to move on after being heart broken..and then my favorite line..'holidng hands is so powerless' holding hands isnt the ultimate show of intimicy but it is a sense of beloning and support..he tries to convince himself that it's not that important, eventhough he would like to have someone at his side.shoulder to cry on'the stars'. Her picture will remain unbroken she cries tonight "I fall in love"...' red is the color or love, and blood.mostly. anyway...he sees this as a stop sign..like in traffic red light=stop and stuff..if u dont stop u might get into an accident etc...her picture wil always be with him but he has to move on..falling in love is dangerous, you never know if someone is going to catch u... 'whipe each tear away with sand paper tonight I'm not alone... I just wanna get your fucking voice out of my head...' sandpaper is rough,, like a plaster take the tears away from ur eyes faster rather than slowly...if u take the plaster off slowly it will be a waste of ur time..so to speak//he moves on..she cries realizes that she messed up or is jealous that he's moving on..he doent necessarly move on..but just tries to forget out her.. 'will i fall within the break? ill watch you fall.' he is asking will i suffer from this break up or will it be her that dwells? ... she falls and is miserable and he tries to move on,,he said his part, and is sick of wastng time for wotever reason, his memories are the past, his actions and thougths are the future, adn she... doesnt seem to be in the future as a gf..so he goes on living.. it seems that a song can replace a broken heart...=P |

amazing song, so much emotion... this song, as many people have mentioned, can be about any sort of relationship... a relationship in which a person doesn't get anything in return and feels ignored or neglected, 'you better bend before i go on the first train to Mexico...' does not have to have the meaning of something sexual,,,, it can simply mean that the other person needs to change his/her ways ('bend'... change route of their daily routine or the way they act) or else the person who feels this will move on and escape, into another country and into the arms of someone else... |

I like the two interpertations above, seems like its all there...although I'm still kinda confused about why there is a reference to the water...is water like a place of purity? Enlightment, so to speak? Hm...I know that Brandon is a surfer, so is there any connection with that? That he feels at peace with the world while out at sea? this is an awesome song...i think it means something in the lines of a broken love...he had a relationship with someone but due to some reason "I hate to disappoint but it's the way things went/I was bound to the things I did" it ended. "I've got the solution/You can feed me to something/ That is leaving this doubt" here he is calling out for help, not necessarly from God, he is in the spot everyone is in when about to dump or when having to end a relationship;" is this the right thing to do? will i be happier?"the chorus is the part where the pain and agony is described and the need for help is called out, someone to help him heal the broken haert or the "hole in my heart". in the bridge he is saying that the (past) relationship isn't bringing him joy or the bliss he needs and describes his heart as the coldest heart, but if they part it can be "brought to life". "A couple of tears and I'm a broken mess/The sadness has taken me far too deep in regret/So sing me a song about something good" here he just wants to move on, "forget" the pain . This song, i think, is about when's the right time to move on, when , in a relationship, everything is frozen and only the fire of goodbye's can bring both back to life. I guess I agree I agree with all of you. I think that if you were brought up in a CERTAIN way (limitation), you are held back by some sort of forces and obstacle and that's why you need a CERTAIN shade of green (start sign, sort of) to let you evolve, move on, grow as a person. By the forces of the society, TV, parents (not always), school, work etc. you are limiting yourself in a certain way.... 'What are you are you waiting for? A written invitation? A public declaration? A private consolation? Remember when you procrastinate you chose last' 2012 AD can also only be a threat, to let you see.... ok, so the end is near, wot you gonna do?are you going to live your life like this or are you gonna go somewhere with your life? |
