| The Rumjacks – Bar the Door Casey Lyrics | 7 years ago |

I sort of imagined this was a play on the age old phrase "Katy bar the door" meaning to be careful with danger ahead. And so the protagonist is recounting all of these dangerous times he's managed to pull through, but this time he's getting his affairs in order, sure that this one is too perilous to pull through. https://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/katy-bar-the-door.html |

What this song means to the artist can be found on their site at - http://www.seabound.de/inside.html It was largely inspired by a novel called Homo Faber by Max Frisch (which anyone should read, it's great!). Anyways, just scroll down to the bit called "Inside - Hooked" and see for yourself. |

| Cutting Crew – (I Just) Died in Your Arms Lyrics | 19 years ago |

While Tomd and Deluded seem to be right, the more I read the lyrics, the more it seems Thumbelina was on to something with the prostitute idea. There's several lines that would imply this. "I'm a name on a list" and "All take and no give" would definately imply this. Also "Who would've thought a boy like me could come to this?" and "I should've walked away" would imply the regret of going with that kind of girl. I think a big line to note was "Loving by proxy" though. As an adjective "proxy" means "acting as substitute for another" which well... Apply that line to a woman and lights flash prostitute all over. And the very last verse - "It was a long hot night But she made it easy, she made it feel right But now it's over, the moment has gone I followed my hands not my head, I know I was wrong" Going to a prostitute would be uneasy and tense, but it's their job to make it feel easy/right, as she did. In the end, if you replace hands with "little man" (if you get my drift), it makes a lot more sense. And in the heat of the moment, using your head isn't really how it goes down. So, a different take, but I'm not sure exactly what Cutting Crew intended. |

| Mindless Self Indulgence – Planet Of The Apes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
There is a detention facility in San Bernardino county, as would be expected due to it's size. It seems to me that what's being said is basically that our primitive nature is unacceptable. Whether she is 15 or 18 won't make much difference, and in fact sleeping with a 15 year old girl is accepted in many parts of the word, as the body is ready to reproduce at such an age. But since this isn't a planet of the apes, doing such a thing in the US for example will get you thrown in prison for a long time. So we can't be primal humans or be apelike. *shrug* I could be wrong, but that made sense to me. |
