I agree with seth too. It makes so much more sense that way. But i mean yeah sure it could also be about love and how it numbs you and takes over. "I havent felt the way i feel today in so long its hard for me to specify, im beginning to notice how much this feels like the waking limb pins and needles nice to know you goodbye." Like yeah hes totally talking about how he was sober and hes getting high and its awakening his limbs,, or i mean it could be that he is now in love after so long and that is awakening him and his body. This song is about the basis of life. its about how everything goes in circles. so many things in this world are cyclic. The tide, The seasons, the mentrual cycle of women, maturity of butterflies. So yes like JabbaHut444 said there is a very simple meaning to this song, hes talking about a lover and what goes around comes around. But it deeper can mean how life relies on circles. Not just love and hate. |

I agree with reeny.. i think that sometimes change can hurt us. I think he is saying how we all want something else, never happy with who we are. This is also about suicide.. at least thats what i think of everytime i hear it. "but oh god, under the weight of life things seem much brighter on the other side." here i think he is trying to express that sometimes life gets us down and because of that we think of the "other side" or death... as a better alternative to life. I love this song. its funny i think he gets the same point accross about pain and suffering in this rhythmic wonderful song then any "punk" song without actual musical talent does. |

I love this song more than anything else. I love the music, he is so talented, but i also love the meaning inside the lyrics. I agree with everyone that this is about the apartheid, but also just about everything in this world. Its about hate and love. Its about black and white.. Its about religion and reason. He wants to live in a world of peace and "one-ness" A reacurring theme in a lot of his songs is to just live day by day and to feel everyday that you accomplised something. I am in love with this song, as well as Dave Matthews. i love him live!
