I love The Smiths, and not a week goes by where I don't think about the lyrics "Des the body rule the mind/or does the mind rule the body/I don't know". And considering the vast amount of music I listen to, and all the lyrics I ponder over, that is an amazing thing and a testament to Moz's talent as a lyricist. |

I can relate completely to the lyric, "I've spent six years on your trail". I recently got in contact with a guy I sort of lost touch with a few years ago...and I realize that all these years I've sort of held him up to a perfect standard. And now, years later, I realize that I've just been looking for him when he was there all along. I spent years thinking about him, and now that I'm talking to him again, it's like I did spend six long years of my life on his trail, trying to find him again.
It's about dreaming of someone, searching for that person you think is going to complete you.
And that is my strangely vague and personal message for songmeanings today that did not contribute anything to the post discussion haha. Everyone has to do one eventually! |

i'm positive she says "be my man at the end" and i think the lyric is "you were wet with sweat".
God, is this song beautiful. Her love for Dylan really shines through. It's very touching, the line "from the beginning to my dying day".... she's loved him forever. |

I think a common theme in B&S songs is the everyday average person who feels a little lonely or lost. The cyclist, the fox, and the girl all have their own problems; whether they're running from them or trying to find the courage to face them.
But then again, it could just literally be a sweet, slightly sad song about a fox in the snow, lol. |

This song is based on the Carter Family's "Lover's Lane". Beck changed up the lyrics a bit- changing "I first met you down on lover's lane,you were just like an angel with golden wings" to "I first met you down on lover's lane, the birds were insane, flapping all about". I like both of course!! |

I've always thought the line "You gotta learn how to die/if you want to be alive" meant that you have to go through the rough times and brushes or experiences with death (not just near death experiences or something, but like the death of a close friend for example) to learn how important and special life is and can be if we live life to the fullest. |

Beck went out with Winona Ryder for a while, who was involved with Johnny Depp in the 90's. I also know that Beck once played at Depp's Viper Room, and the experience wasn't so good...supposedly they closed the curtains on him or something. In that case, i totally understand why he'd have some negative feelings toward johnny depp. still, both guys are the coolest. |
