I would think there is some metaphor within the song to "The Marshall Plan" of 1948 - which was the US' plan to aid in Europe's recovery following WWII. |

| Dead Kennedys – Holiday in Cambodia Lyrics

In 1986, the Dead Kennedys were sued under revised Californian anti-obscenity laws for distributing pornography with the Frankenchrist album: the contentious item was actually Swiss surrealist H.R. Giger's painting Landscape #20: Where Are We Coming From (Penis Landscape). The band split under the pressure, Biafra became a high-profile critic of America's conservative right (fuelling a successful spoken word career), and also gained control of ATR. The third outcome had important lasting implications.
In 1997, Biafra vetoed the use of a Dead Kennedys signature song, Holiday in Cambodia, in a Levi Jeans television advertising campaign. Biafra's ex-band mates, East Bay Ray (guitar), Klaus Flouride (bass), and D.H. Peligro (drums), subsequently terminated their ATR contract on October 1st, 1998, claiming that Biafra had failed to promote the band's back catalogue, and had miscalculated their royalties lower than other ATR artists. Biafra then counter-sued Ray for breaching fidiciary duty (of Decay Music, the bands' administrative arm), and stopped work on archived live recordings. Predatory media covered the painful split.
The trial outcome - US$200,000 in damages awarded to Ray, Flouride, and Peligro - has crucial implications for the music industry. The case established a legal precedent for "lack of promotion" damages. As the band's most prolific creative force, Biafra had argued that each songwriter owned his material, but the jury ruled that the band collectively owned the songs.
By the way, H.R. Giger is a genious of art. A sick and twisted genious, but a genious none the less.

Thank you CrimsonApex for clarifying the religion, Armenia is always at the tip of my tongue, but I guess instead of looking up their heritage for the 5th or so timne, I went with the Serbia reference that was no doubt incorrect. I definitely agree with the "God in Black" belief of yours. As I've been trying to tell people, they aren't mocking or thrashing God. Yes, Christianity is/was definitely big in Armenia (%ages went down considerably after the Turkish Muslim founded genocide) as it was one of the 1st countries to anounce an official religion (I don't believe it is still one) of Christianity. Agnostic seems right up their alley. Again, sorry for the confusion earlier, I mistakenly labeled them as possibly Muslim through the incorrect labeling of Serbia. |

Metallica, thanks for clarifying! Anyway, I believe most of them are from serbia, where Islam (Muslims) is the main religion. I beleive though, that they are very independent in their thoughts on religion, following their own path, which I think is the smartest way to go. I think they pull various aspects from many religions into their own. I have been a Christian all my life, but there are sveral instances where I don't agree with the churches policies, so I don't classify myself as a christian any more. |

Go Jello - I love the style, but the message doesn't read as well when it is so hard to figure out a third of the lyrics. |

| Dead Kennedys – MTV - Get Off The Air Lyrics

Panathinaikos5 - awesome outburst. Ok, I admit it, I have watched MTV, alright? Yes, once or twice at 12 midnight I have turned the channel to MTV2 and watched Jackass, and hey MTV has made 1 or two good investments, look at Beavis and Butthead, or Jackass, Homewreckers, or the not as great Viva la Bam. But the point revolves around music. Correct me if I'm wrong - (seriously) but I'm fairly sure that MTV has abondoned putting Music based shows on their air-time, right? So why the fuck is it still called MTV?!? Panathinaikos5 is a lucky bastard to not have to live with that hypocracy. Now, as against funding such a corporation as MTV, I did need to buy Jackass: The complete Box Set and Jackass the Movie (though the movie is paramount so I'm crossing different borders now) to keep me alive, but at least I don't have to keep that shytty channel on my TV anymore. |

Hey, Metallica of a Down! Alright, it's great that you have comments, and I agree with most of you opinions -though I doubt they are saying that those who die in the war aren't going to heaven. What if they go to war, kill people against their will and live? What if they go to war, end up killing no one and die --- or live? You need to be a bit more specific with that one. (Not starting a fight, I just value your opinion and would like to know more about it - but anyway, I've heard a bit of Russian rock, having taught in a Russian University for over 7 years, and I've never head something of this sort. But hey, that's just my experience. |

I'm now listening to the government theory and it sounds plausible, but since I first heard the song I felt it was a bit different. It sounds as if it is an order - not a serious one, just one to "wake us up." I think it may be about a Revolution or something of that sort, stopping all the shyt that goes on due to our government. |

Just making sure everyone knows, both the Republicans and Democrats, Conservatives and Liberals, supported going to war with Iraq. I personally consider myself neither, as I feel labeling yourself curbs your veiws and limits what you "may or may not support" - Not trying to start a fight. I'm pretty sure SOAD isn't taking a side in that fight, only on the fight between killing for peace and discussing for peace, backing of course, the latter. Ben Franklin put it simply, "There was never a good war, nor a bad peace." I do not believe the song points negatively towards Christianity or God, but to us- or more specifically, our bullshytting government, whom God can find no Hope for. They seem to follow the horrible quote from Joseph Stalin, "Death solves all problems. No man, no Problem." |

I believe that in this song, SOAD is protesting how the government forces young men to war, and how many people are forced into war because they do not have a means to any other job and may be unfortunate (low-class/poor). The mentioning of God and The Savior furthers the meaning, asking "Are they gonna be saved?" which is judgement -- in other words, what happens to those who are forced to kill other human beings for the government? Does God accept them into heaven, or do they go to, well, no other than Hell. I also beleive the statement "He's come so far to find no truth | He's never going home" refers to God. He has tried to find a hope in humanity but cannot, because as long as war and all the horrible things that go on everywhere -US INCLUDED- there is no hope. |
