"With forked tongues selling faux sermons" For me, I think this is an allusion going back to 'The Scarlet Letter' by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In the story, a minister commits adultry and the woman [who's married] gets pregnant. For 7 years, he's giving false sermons to the people of the town and does not confess that he's the father. It's basically talking about hypocrits in this world. |
