| Animal Collective – Daffy Duck Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I can't believe there aren't more comments on this song, the meaning is pretty vague, I have to agree with the father-to-son one the most. But the singing on it is very nice and engrossing. | |
| Animal Collective – What Would I Want? Sky Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| bothers me* | |
| Animal Collective – What Would I Want? Sky Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is amazing, but the title bothers mean to no end. | |
| Fleetwood Mac – The Chain Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Anybody else hear the word "fuck" whispered at the very beginning of the song? | |
| The Airborne Toxic Event – Sometime Around Midnight Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The Explosions in the Sky song is called "Your Hand In Mine" not "Hand in Hand" | |
| Chairlift – Bruises Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"this song is totalyy about giving head.. why does she have holes in her new jeams and burises on her knees and grassstains ...hhmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. " From doing handstands and falling. I think you're over-analyzing just a bit too much partner. |

| Mew – Comforting Sounds Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
To me, this is the best song ever written. Perhaps not lyrically, but musically it gives me a lot of hope. I agree with it being about the transition from childhood to adulthood and losing the innocence and purity and kind of realizing how ugly the world is. |

| oops, I meant Never an* honest work | |
| Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I don't know if this has been discussed or not but I think he is saying Never and honest WORK But that was when I ruled the world I hear the sound of the K, plus I think it makes more sense with the rest of the lyrics. But I don't know, I could be wrong. |

| Coldplay – Lost! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
AshTheSuccubus -- I think he is using two different meanings for the word "lost" I think in the first verse he is stating that just because he is losing that doesn't mean that he lost the battle so-to-speak, whereas when he states he just got lost, he's talking about being confused about location or mixed up etc. In any case, I think this song has a pretty simple meaning, at least to me. It's about a break-up, and he's telling his ex-lover that despite how badly it ended, it will eventually surpass but for the time being he's giving himself hope and waiting for that pain and hurting to to "wear off" |

| Interpol – Wrecking Ball Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| That'd be pretty cool if he was speaking spanish at the end, but I'm pretty sure it's just lyrics that were reversed. | |
| Arcade Fire – Ocean of Noise Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| the bass line in this song is fantastic. | |
| James Blunt – You're Beautiful Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The lyrics to this song are very poorly written. They're bad poetry and they make James Blunt seem like a 12 year old who thinks he's in love. HOWEVER, the message is purposefully simple, and the chorus really slams it home... even if it sometimes has nothing to do with the verses. Also, this song is more about the emotion behind the words then the words themselves. If any of you caught the Austin City Limits with Blunt you'll know what I'm talking about... Especially when he sang "No Bravery." He might be a terrible poet, but his words are heartfelt. |

| My Chemical Romance – Mama Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I can't believe nobody has commented on how: "Well mother what the war did to my legs and to my tongue, You shoulda raised a baby girl I shoulda been a better son If you could counter the infection, they can amputate at once You should’ve been I could've been a better son." Sounds almost exactly like "The Trial" by Pink Floyd. Black Parade was heavily influenced by The Wall. Almost to the point of copying. Fantastic album none the less though. |

| Gorgeous. | |
| Mew – Behind The Drapes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
These lyrics are wrong, it should be: All of us now bent as we fall To amorous light we call out Why are we so alone Even with company? If not the moon will us guide Will then the street light? All of us now breathe it like smoke To know what it’s like Breathing to choke Well, for nine days A small moth has tried to escape Our bedroom Why are we so alone Even with company? We are the prey For each day a striking distance Why are we so alone Even with company? If not the moon will us guide Will then the street light? Why are we so alone Even with company? We are the prey For each day a striking distance |

| Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Modern Romance Lyrics | 19 years ago |

It's interesting to me how there are so few words in this song, and yet the interpretations can get very long and symbollic. The power of interpretation is indeed powerful. Great song, by the way. |

| R.E.M. – Nightswimming Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Beautiful. | |
| Mew – Animals of Many Kinds Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Obviously this was the rough draft of 'The Zookeeper's Boy.' I'm not really sure what it's about, but I think it might have to do something with being in a relationship that is accepted by the world -- The zoo animals being a metaphor for the world. | |
| Mew – The Seething Rain Weeps For You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Beautiful. I think this song is just about not getting to know a person as much as you want to because they leave you too soon or you leave too soon and you're very much still in love with them and spend your days reminiscing about it and wishing it you were still together. |
|
| Cursive – Staying Alive Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I recommend Comforting Sounds by Mew, it's probably not as sadly emotional as this song is, but it definitely overwhelms with emotion, it builds up and explodes. Check it out. | |
| Rancid – Olympia WA Lyrics | 19 years ago |

That damn Tobi Vail... This song gets written about her... like half of Nevermind by Nirvana was written about her.. Anyway, I live in Olympia... and it's not all that great. So shut up. |

| Pink Floyd – The Trial Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I like this song, it really sounds like it should be in a broadway musical. It also sounds like it could have been written by Danny Elfman and put on a Tim Burton movie... |

| Interpol – PDA Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
To me, the chorus is totally religious. I think the 200 couches may be referring to the many pews in a church. And how the church will let anyone in under it's wing (to sleep). How the church will take care of you. The verses might be talking about a relationship with somebody and either the singer or the person being sung to is non-religious. And this is all taking place in a small town - where religion is a main part of life and all the community is apart of it. and PDA in this song to me stands for Public Display of Atheism. That's just my opinion, I dunno that's all I thought of. |

| The Presidents of the United States of America – Peaches Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think the fact that such basic and simple songs by the Presidents can be so overly analyzed makes the lyrics genius. I'm from the same area as The Presidents, they've been on many local radio stations and played shows around here, and they're just not the type of guys to write the most metaphorically soaked songs. Sometimes you just have to go with it. Peaches, Kitties, Boll Weevils, and Dune Buggies. | |
| The Presidents of the United States of America – Lump Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song is most definitely about a party girl turned lazy. Lump sat alone in a boggy marsh Totally motionless except for her heart Mud flowed up into Lump's pajamas She totally confused all the passing piranhas Once a party girl, now lazy and alone, doing absolutely nothing except breathing and her heart beating. Mud flowing up in her pajamas could just mean she's rotting away or just a random line. Confusing all the passing pirahna's means all the people she once partied with are confused how she turned into a lump. She's Lump, she's Lump She's in my head She's Lump, she's Lump, she's Lump She might be dead Self explanatory Lump lingered last in line for brains, And the ones she got were sort of rotten and insane Small thing's so sad that birds could land Is Lump fast asleep or rockin' out with the band? Not the smartest person around, but she was fun, sorta rotten and insane. Small things nobody noticed, but she gradually became so lazy a bird could land on her unnoticed. She's lazy now? She's not rocking out with the band anymore? is the last question posed. Lump was limp and lonely and needed a shove Lump slipped on a kiss and tumbled into love She spent her twenties between the sheets Life limped along at subsonic speeds She needs to be motivated to get back into her old lifestyle of falling foolishly in love, partying with money and sex (perhaps prostitution?), and Life dragged on but it was so fast and now it's slow. Is this Lump out of my head, I think so Is this Lump out of my head, I think so, yeah Is this Lump out of my head, I think so Is this Lump out of my head... trying not to think about her anymore |

| The Jimi Hendrix Experience – The Wind Cries Mary Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Anyone else think that maybe this song is about some kind of parade that just took place and then smoking a bunch of mary-jane, or marijuana, after it. Or even smoking marijuana and then thinking about a parade? It makes sense, even if he wrote it after getting into a fight with his girlfriend. | |
| Crowded House – Don't Dream It's Over Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Personally, I think this song is about a young boy in a war having a flashback to his home life and thinking about his girl back home. "There is freedom within, There is freedom without, Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup" War can be a misunderstanding -- one nation tries to impose freedom on another country, even though the country already believe itself to be free. We don't do a good job of cleaning up our messes (paper cup/flood) "There's a battle ahead, Many battles are lost, But you'll never see the end of the road while you're travelling with me" Obviously discussing battles the soldier is reflecting on and is about to be a part of. Perhaps talking to a partner or comrade how this war seems like it'll never end. " Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they won't win" Don't dream it's over, because there is still more fighting to be had as more of the world gets involved with the war. They'll try and take people out of their lives by sending them off to war and creating a metaphorical wall between their loved ones and them through separation. But the soldier knows he will hold on to what he loves. "Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof In the paper today tales of war and of waste But you turn right over to the T.V. page" Flashback to before he joined the military and how poor he was which led him to join the military in hopes of a better life where the government would pay for his things. Discussing the war in the media and how he is fighting this cause and many people don't give a damn and just keep endulging in their mindless entertainment. "Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart Only the shadows ahead barely clearing the roof Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief" Now he's back in the battle, in the 1800s, drums were a very common instrument in war when marching into battle. The soldier is also counting down the days when he can be home again and with his love. It's uncertain whether or not the war will be over, but he's marching into this battle telling the enemies their country should get to know freedom. |
