Ok you guys, I think this song might be about drugs.
Drinking straws in toothpaste tubes: I don't get it. Drug people out there, do you know what that's all about? |

A line from the great movie Groundhog Day:
Bill Murray: (Bitches about covering the groundhog thing)
Chris Elliot: "I don't know why you hate doing the groundhog festival. When I was in San Diego I covered the swallows returning to Capistrano 6 years in a row!"
So I dunno |

A lot of people question Eddie Vedder's abilities as a songwriter, but I think this song proves that he is among the greatest songwriters in the history of western civilization. |

nah fuck that the overproduced jenny lewis version is nowhere near as good as the live rilo kiley version i've got. Also, I'm pretty sure she got the idea for this song from the movie Adaptation. |

This is a great song, not because I agree with each of the statements (I disagree with probably a third of them), but becasue it is saying that these issues are black and white. Fat Mike is not saying that you're wrong because he says so, or because "he knows all." Fat Mike has no doubt thought out reasons for why he feels the way he does about each issue, and he is presenting his opinion on each of them here. And naturally, he believes that he is right and feels strongly about it. That's fine. The value of this song is in pointing out that there is a right and a wrong side to these issues. Halfdigested: You're Wrong. |

lol, how the fuck do you get "Buying windows, but you traded your life to bless his soul."? That doesn't even make sense. The line is "vying with those who you've traded your life to to bless your soul."
"And have they told you how to think, cleansed your mind of sepsis and autonomy, or have you escaped from scrutiny, and regaled yourself with depravity?"
Those lines are some of the best that Bad Religion has written in my opinion. The idea is that you either conform to religion and give up your autonomy or do not conform to religion and therefore lead a depraved life. These are the only two options for humanity that religious people see, they believe that it is impossible to lead a non-depraved life without God. |

This song is meant simply to paint a picture of the hopelessness and gloominess of oppressed people. The song has a sort of bogged-down, heavy feel to it. You get the feeling that the characters in the song have given up long ago and are now resigned to their fate. Like the people in 1984. Y'all above posters with your big words are looking way too deep into this. |
