I used this song in my GCSE Drama piece. The piece was about a girl who takes drugs to escape from her abusive boyfriend but it brings back all these memories of her childhood. At any one time, four out of five members of the group play her demons, representing the drug, and we used this song during our dance scene when we are all the demons. We didn't use it because of the lyrics, but because of the robotic beat at the beginning. Since our drama performance which was about 10 days ago, I've fallen in love with the song and all the joyful memories of 12-hour rehearsals it brings back. |

she knows he has to go. he hasn't told her in so many words, but he's serious and they both know that it's now. she won't accept it and wants it to last forever.
she's been meaning to tell him, but now she won't ever be able to because he's gone. |

"I want to hang it out in your coat". Perhaps Dido is portraying herself as a moth, and has eaten her way through the whole coat, and now she's looking for new pastures but the coat doesn't want her to leave because otherwise it will get thrown away.
Tragic.
Anyway, I think "When I feel lost I just slip away silently" is showing how she has to leave because he never really noticed her anyway, and he's only using her for sex. Which she likes, but she wants more. |

i once read a book about a man who was obsessed with slowing down time. and because he was so obsessed with it, time seemed to go faster when he was thinking about it, so he tried to stop thinking about it but he couldn't because of the thought avoidance paradox. and because nobody can slow down time, he became more and more afraid until eventually he realised that the only way to stop time was to kill himself. |

She can't rely on him to be there all the time, even though this is what a "perfect" boyfriend is meant to do, and she has to learn to take care of herself and not to emotionally "dump" herself upon him. |

i discovered this song when i typed in the title of the snow patrol album "eyes open" into my itunes library and this song came up too because of the words in its name.
it's a cold song. it's quite brechtian; the guy feels no emotion towards this person who has become detached from the world; he doesn't care and he doesn't care that he doesn't care.
it seems as if he used to know her, but she's changed and he doesn't like it. but then... there are moments you have with people you used to be close to, an understanding between you that nobody else could have. and they have that, and then they feel detached and the only way they can stop it from hurting is not caring. and that's all you can do. |

i disagree with X Co and Ca X - i think there are at least 6 good songs on this album - yellow brick road, like toy soldiers, mockingbird, encore, just lose it and never enough. i think this is his weakest album, though. maybe removing some of the fart sounds would make it better. |
