Stepdad – My Leather, My Fur, My Nails Lyrics 12 years ago
I think it's about a gay man who has an overbearing straight female friend. She wants to embody everything about him and ends up smothering him because she can't find her own identity.

Florence + the Machine – Dog Days Are Over Lyrics 13 years ago
I like your interpretation. I agree it seems like she realized she would be happy if she left the bad relationship, and it occurred to her in a "moment of clarity", and that even though she is emotionally entangled with the person she realizes she has to leave immediately. This is the moment she takes charge of her life, regardless of the hardship she's about to experience (horses) by leaving the person.

The Flaming Lips – Waitin' for a Superman Lyrics 18 years ago
I love the drums on this track, as with most lips songs. Not too difficult to discern the meaning, it's saying that most of the time, Superman doesnt come to save the day, and we need to rely on hope to make it through hard times. He hasn't dropped us or forgot us, he just can't save everyone from everything. I like to think that Wayne is referring to the Superman inside each of us, we want to save our loved ones from pain and suffering, but we're suffering right there with them.

The Flaming Lips – Feeling Yourself Disintegrate Lyrics 18 years ago
The repeated "Feeling yourself disinegrate" is one of the best moments on this record. To me the song is simply saying that life is short, and love as much as you can cuz it's all temporary.

The Flaming Lips – Slow Motion Lyrics 18 years ago
Wow can't believe there aren't more comments on this song. A wonderful drift-away, and has prolly my fav lips line: "I'm feeling like a float in a Macy's Day parade". Agree completely with imightloseit that the meanings can be interpreted differently with each mood.

Beirut – Postcards from Italy Lyrics 18 years ago
Oh how I love this song. Beautiful piece. It's sounds to me like he's remimiscing about a girl from, ummm, Italy, and wanting to be with her but they're far apart and communicating through postcards. The lyrics posted look pretty accurate, except for "the chattered soul" doesn't sound right.

Coldplay – Trouble Lyrics 18 years ago
It's about love to me, not necessarily a lover but anyone in life that we care about that we've hurt unintentionally. We get caught up in drama, or "spiderwebs", and say or do things that we don't realize are hurtful to one that we love until it's too late. I like how, in the end, he sings "they spun a web for me", as if the people who put him in the spiderweb were doing it to protect him. I've known many people in my life who have tried to protect me but, in doing so, caused heartache for someone I care about. One of my favorite songs ever.

Björk – New World Lyrics 18 years ago
One of my favorite songs of all time...I'm not sure what "New World" Bjork is referring to, maybe heaven, but if it's anything like the music sounds, take me there. Perfect!

Aimee Mann – Wise Up Lyrics 18 years ago
One of the most perfect songs I've ever heard, and still gives me goosebumps after years of listening. To me it's about how we as humans like to deny our addictions and bad habits and try to justify them to ourselves, regardless of the consequences ("it's not going to stop 'til you wise up"). I agree with above comments that when she says to just "give up", that it's the obvious antidote to our addictions but easier said than done. This song is featured on the Jerry Mcguire soundtrack from 1996 so it wasn't written specifically for Magnolia, but it fits perfectly.

Broken Social Scene – Shampoo Suicide Lyrics 18 years ago
I have no clue what it's about, I just think BSS are blessing us with a gorgeous piece of music. The actual words they sing are irrelevant to me--they just sound beautiful when sung together. Definitely my favorite from this album.

I love this man....the meaning is fairly obvious just by looking up Adlai Stevenson, and it's a beautiful first look at the upcoming outtakes album! All Sufjan fans rejoice!

The New Pornographers – Use It Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with Eelsrule, this song is about taking chances and "using" what you have. Even if we have to "send a wrecking crew" after you, use your talent/charm/looks/money/fame/personality to get where you want to be, instead of taking it for granted. I love how the band members get "used" to play their instruments in the video.

The New Pornographers – Twin Cinema Lyrics 18 years ago
To me, this song is about how our own lives, at times, equal the drama/comedy/horror of the films we see. You know--that moment in a film where you understand what the character feels because you've been through it too ("They've shown this on both screens"). There's also a hint of how other people like to comment and judge our life choices, much like they comment outloud (annoyingly) right in the middle of the film ("in soft seats are stills projecting
no protecting from voices in the back of your double feature"). Whatever the true meaning, I love this whole record.

The New Pornographers – Sing Me Spanish Techno Lyrics 18 years ago
These lyrics look correct to me, except "For listening to the, to one sound" should be "For listening too long, to one song". From what I gather, this song is about needing a radical change in lifestyle. How many times have you thought you needed a change in your life because you're stuck in a rut and the scenery has become redundant? When he asks "Sing Me Spanish Techno", that's exactly what he wants to hear. Something completely new and foreign even, because he's been listening to one song for too long, or lived in the same place for too long, or been in an unrewarding relationship for too long ("The hourglass spills its sand If only to punish you" and "Do we see what the clock makes you do").
"Sing Me Spanish Techno" could be titled "Fly Me To The Moon" or "Throw Me Off The Golden Gate Bridge", something crazy and new to help one escape the day-to-day routines and incessant familiarity. And it makes me jump up, flail my arms, and dance around the living room. I definitely can't help listening to this song for too long.
