Finger Eleven – Sick Of It All Lyrics 19 years ago
One of F11's greatest songs (it's no Thousand Mile Wish) and the acoustic is a great version. It's a great song because it has a sort of pseudo indivdualistic feel in that anyone can relate it to their own experiences.
From the song/lyrics I got the feel that it's about someone who's sick or maybe has a terminal illness and they want to know how far they're willing to take it before they give up on life. It deals with how their life/perspective has been altered and what really matters in life and how we are all chasing the wrong/superficial goals when there are much more serious matters/meanings to life.
It just means to me how a terminal illness can make you re-evaluate things in life and how far you are willing to take things or fight for what you believe is the meaning of your life. Anyway, there's no one perfect perspective on this song whcih makes it a fantastic song!!

Equalizer – Sweet Mary Lyrics 20 years ago
well think about it, it starts off in 1976 in Jamaica when he found that he liked mary (marijuana) contrary to what his mothers been telling him growing up (don't smoke weed, it's bad)
she was a mountain girl (grown in the mountains)
boy when u first met met you were as green as a mango tree (you had some good weed before but now you've had real jamaican weed - now you're a man)
the chorus says that you can smoke all the california weed you want but you still won't get as high as you were in JA
now he's older has no more family had a few mistakes in life but he remembers a time where he was truely happy (and high) so he went back to JA and went to the bar and asked the bartender for some weed but since then it was criminalized and everyone in the bar remember the time when they all smoked it
...anyway, that's just how i hear it...

Slipknot – Opium of the People Lyrics 20 years ago
The song is a definate reference to Marx's definition of religion, "religion is the sign of the oppressed creature....It is the opium of the people...Religion is only the illusionary sun which revolves around man as long as he does not revolve around himself"

I believe this song takes the perspective of God, not Jesus, and of the faithful starting to lose faith

watch those idiosyncrasies!
watch all the idiots fall on me!
running out of ways to get outta the way! - is from the point of view of God, as well as the lyrics "I won't give another soul to you" meaning he gave his only son and we crucified him (the only religion based upon mankind killing the son of their god and based upon guilt by the way)

And the faith losing faith are saying that they just want the pain/void (that christianity used to fill) to stop and they have to turn to other things to fill that void
The song also touches on the fact that God gave his son to us and we crucified him so if you follow christianity be careful because "one wrong move and they will pound, my nails are deep inside my wrists..."
...anyway, that's just what I got out of it...I could be wrong

Am I the only one who thinks this song is about marijuana and not a girl named Mary?
