Straightforward song really. It's about the feelings of denial after someone who you really had feelings for leaves you. It's about how much can you miss them even when you feel like they don't care anymore.. "if I saw you right now I'm embarrassed to say I'd take you back and we could just pretend you never went away" That line really kinda sums up the feeling... you know that it's pathetic of yourself to continue dwelling on someone who no longer cares but you still hope that maybe they'll come around and realize what they've left behind.
Sums up my life atm really. Great song |

This song is just completely amazing, my favorite by far. Best lyrics, best song structure, best everything, every lyric in this song is incredible.
Anyway, I'm not really sure, but it sounds to me like someone who's depressed and/or really unhappy with himself falling in love with someone who, to them, is perfect and it just makes them feel even worse. And then when he feels like he doesn't feel the same about her anymore he makes himself hate her so he can start fresh... I dunno, I think I'm just barely in the ballpark there |

My interpretation is that it means he was bordering on the decision of breaking up with her, or already did. And all she had to do was prove that she cared, and everything would be alright again. But all she ended up proving was that she didn't give a shit |

Could be wrong, but I think she's talking about how she loves this guy, but then they go long-distance, and when they finally get the chance to meet up again, he's not who he was before.
First verse seems to talk about him going away, second talks about them talking on the phone or something and her sensing change, then obviously the little bit about her noticing it. Then the third verse seems to talk about them finally being with each other again, hug, but she knows he's not who he was before; thus the misplaced love. |
