| this song is about an incident in which elliott was driving with his friends in the countryside. As his friend says, "it was pitch black out and we were in a little cul de sac, and [Smith] just got out and started running." by the time they reached the spot in the darkness where elliott had disappeared, Smith had run himself off a cliff and landed on a tree and the branch went into his back. His friends were very worried about him after this occured and were afraid that he was going to hurt himself. Eventually they had an intervention for him and convinced him to go to a rehab center in Arizona. Smith spent a short time at the rehab center, hating it, and managed to fake his way out of it. He felt betrayed by his friends, who had always seemed to know what was best for him, and wrote this caustic song about that whole experience. | |
