Take That – Rule the World Lyrics 16 years ago
In the Daily Mail it says, Stardust's director Matthew Vaughan asked Take That if they would be interested in writing a song for the film. Gary Barlow recalls: "We live near each other in London so I said: 'Come along to our place at 6 and I'll give you our answer.' Matthew came at 6 and in that time we'd composed and written a song. We played it for him and now it's going to be in the film."

Adam Ant – Stand And Deliver Lyrics 18 years ago
In the the book 1000 UK Number One Hits by Jon Kutner & Spencer Leigh, Adam Ant yays of this song “Its just stealing peoples attention. I’m a very big history fan of certainly the Georgian era and I like the flamboyance and sexuality and bawdiness of the time. I’ve seen films like Tom Jones and I grew up going to Saturday morning pictures and seeing all these other influences. I put them all together and ‘Stand And Deliver’ was just purely grabbing people’s attention and using the whole sort of classical English highwayman feel as a theme."

ABBA – The Name Of The Game Lyrics 18 years ago
I found this quote in the book 1000 UK Number One Hits by Jon Kutner & Spencer Leigh: "Benny & Bjorn were both admirers of Stevie Wonder and had been listening to his then-current album Songs In The Key Of Life. In May 1977, just a few weeks after completing their world tour, they began work on a new song, with a working title ‘A Bit Of Myself’. The bass line was reminiscent of a slowed down version of Stevie Wonder’s ‘I Wish’. This formed the nucleus and the rest of the song was then built up as a six-part harmony structure, which was a new idea Benny employed. When Stig (Anderson) heard the backing track, he suggested ‘The Name Of The Game’ as the song’s new title."

ABBA – Knowing Me, Knowing You Lyrics 18 years ago
I found this quote in the book 1000 UK Number One Hits by Jon Kutner & Spencer Leigh: "Bjorn has since denied that the lyrics had any bearing on his own situation. He claims, “Even if the roots are somewhere deep inside, from something that has happened to you, it’s still 90% fiction. I just work from images. I saw a man walking through an empty house for the last time as a symbol of divorce.”

ABBA – Dancing Queen Lyrics 18 years ago
according to the book 1000 UK Number One Hits by Jon Kutner & Spencer Leigh "The recording of ‘Dancing Queen’ began at the same time Frida recorded ‘Fernando’ but it wasn’t released until a year later. They had been invited to perform for Sweden’s King Carl 16th Gustaf and the future Queen, Silvia Sommerlath. At first, they were unsure which song to perform but in the end the choice was obvious. Benny said “If you have a song called ‘Dancing Queen’, you naturally choose to perform it on an occasion like the gala.” The song was not written specifically about Queen Silvia & at the time she was 33 not 17."

ABBA – Mamma Mia Lyrics 18 years ago
According to the book 1000 UK Number One Hits by Jon Kutner & Spencer Leigh Bjorn explained “Stig Anderson would come up with titles and I’d write a lyric round them. ‘Mamma Mia was one of them.”
It was the last song to be written and recorded for their last album, Abba. In the studio was a marimba, an instrument of African origin, similar to the xylophone, but with wooden bars, which Benny began playing to see what it sounded like. He liked the sound it made and began using it with a tick-tock effect.

ABBA – Ring Ring Lyrics 18 years ago
In 1973 Abba submitted a song for Sweden’s Song For Europe. The song was ‘Ring Ring’ with English lyrics written by Neil Sedaka and a title that Benny and Bjorn thought had a ‘bell’ feeling to it. It lost out to ‘Your Summer’ by The Nova and eventually finished third in the qualifying heats. After the success of 'Waterloo it became a #1 in Belgium & Holland as well as Scandinavia.

ABBA – Waterloo Lyrics 18 years ago
According to the book 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner &Spencer Leigh, Abba considered submitting two songs for Eurovision, ‘Waterloo’ and ‘Hasta Manana’. In the end they chose the former which ingeniously compared romantic surrender to Napoleon Bonaparte’s defeat at the Battle of Waterloo. They won by six points, beating Italy into second place. Abba’s manager Stig Anderson was so confident they would win that he had placed a bet, even though the bookies odds were 20-1 and he had wondered if people might feel it was too aggressive for Eurovision. ‘Waterloo’ was also recorded in French, German and of course Swedish.

ATB – 9 P.M. (Till I Come) Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the story behind this song. Andre Tanneberger was showing a girlfriend round his new studio at his home in Germany, he started showing off his musical instruments to her. He got carried away by a guitar riff on a synthesiser, forgot about his girlfriend & 3 hours later at 9pm Andre Tanneberger had finished the track, which became a trance anthem.
