No one's denying the fact that Lennon was pretentious.
That doesn't stop you from joining his ranks by making utterly ridiculous comments like "this song is as blues as the spice girls!"
I mean Christ, I listen to Robert Johnson, no one denies that's real blues, but that doesn't mean that everything that doesn't sound just like him is inauthentic.
It is unfair to judge music based on what it is not. Of course Lennon takes liberties with the blues structure, but it's better to hate it for what it is, rather than hating it because it doesn't sound like Willie Mc-goddam-till.
But never mind, you have impressed us all greatly with your superior knowledge of American Black music, which you, being a white Brit can obviously relate to on so many levels. Peace and Love. |

haha, stealthangel.
If being a hypocrite means growing up and realizing you had shitty tastes, then yeah, I guess a lot of former LB fans are hypocrites. The Who are leagues ahead of LB in every conceivable way, from talent to influence to innovation.
Fuck this song as a cover by LB, and if you're down with the cover, then fuck you too. |

damn, fackinghell, you are one pretentious bastard, my friend. So what if it isn't "blues" in the traditional sense? It's still a good song.
And like it or not it still does use basically the same blues chord progression as any blues song.
and don't snidely mock someone elses english if you cant even spell "as well" or "much".
people who mock the beatles are usually the kind of people who thirst for artistic credibility, but can't get it on their own merit, so they try to impress their less-knowledgable friends by critiquing the "untouchables" of any medium. "He must have really high tastes if he mocks the BEATLES!" |

I've heard a lot of buzz that the new killers was going to be modeled after Springsteen, and to an extent it's true.
But it's nothing more than a cheap parody, and to all of you who are so impressed by the "epicness" and "deepness" of this song, go download the song Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen and tell me which one's better.
If you still prefer the killer's aping the Boss' sound (and believe me, there are many instances in this song alone, both musically and lyrically), then I am afraid to say your taste in music is probably lacking. |

James Blunt totally missed the point of this song. It's just supposed to be a fun little country-diddy, and he tried to make it all serious and emotional. Plus he changed the intro and tried to put a little moral in there. That's really lame |

loop-to-loop, I do know how hard it is to record one song, because I'm a musician...you know? A... musician? That writes songs? that plays instruments? who's...creative? who can't afford expensive synth equipment and uses real instruments? Trust me, this kind of recording isn't hard to do if you know what you're doing.
Plus, the song is a total rip-off of a UB40 song called "kingston town", released in 1989. Obscure enough so that people listening to this wouldn't recognize it. Man I can't wait till all new music is generated by computers that rips off former musicians achievements. Then everything will be bland, homogonized, sugary goodness to safely consume. Rock on, Paris! |

couldBanyone, you seem like a pretentious blowhard. I understand every word you say, but I choose not to use your kind of "daunting" lexicon when it's almost completely unnecessary, (ie, when posting on an internet forum.) It's clear you didn't come here for any other reason than to show how much smarter you are than everyone else.
Of course a song can't delve into political discussion, so it's "trite" by necessity. Even if a band could include more in-depth political analysis into their songs, it would be boring and would NOT MAKE GOOD ART. Music has always been about emotions, not dry political discussions. There is a time and place for both, but usually not at the same time. |

Looks may not be everything, bu I doubt slipknot would have half the fanbase it does if they wore normal clothes instead of their halloween masks and barcoded jumpsuits.
As for anger and metalheads, believe me, I'm friends with a couple metalheads and have been known to delve a bit into the genre myself, and I know that by and large, metalheads are no angrier than anyone else (although I would debate whether slipknot fits into "metal" so much as "angsty hard rock") Just because its loud doesn't make it metal.
But I too am pissed off that people blame music for kids killing themselves or each other. I don't blame slipknot for anybody going on a murdering rampage, I just don't see how it's helping anybody. With I am Hated, he doesn't try to understand the other point of view, he doesn't seem to think it through, it seems like a gut reaction smeared onto a recording track. He doesn't say, "hey, some parts of life actually don't suck if you really look hard enough" it's just a complete focus on the negative and I don't see how that 's supposed to help anyone through life, as you suggest they do. |

For the record I don't listen to slipknot at all, but I have read some of their lyrics and it really bothers me that this is what passes for lyrical expression.
But yes, kudos to them for helping society. Because of slipknot's music, the homeless are sheltered, the hungry are fed, and the persecuted are justified. Also the angry kids are made angrier instead of dealing with their issues. Awesome. |

of course I can compare the music malley! They're both simplistic and terrible. Look I got picked on in high school, but that doesn't give me the right to be pissed off at society because high school really isn't an accurate reflection of the real world.
Like it or not, everyone is a part of society, and there's no point in being pissed off at it even if it seems unfair. To do so is childish, immature, and selfish. What we need to do instead is see what we can do to change it, and learn to accept the things we can't. Slipknot can't seem to grasp this and thrash around like a screaming 3 year old throwing a tantrum in the supermarket |

I compared slipknot to simple plan for one simple reason: they're both complete bitches. Simple plan whines about society treating them rough, slipknot screams about society treating them rough, and then threaten to kill people. Little secret: these are the type of guys who got beat up in high school and are still mad about it. and killswitch, you don't know who I am, how do you know if you can't stand me? you guys think you're so hardcore, but the lyrics to this song are just like Simple Plan's, except slipknot adds the word fuck in there sometimes, but it's the same whiny crap: it's me against the world, everyone hates me, my life sucks, ect. Slipknot are total pussies who hide behind their "scary" masks, not realizing that Halloweens been over for quite some time, so I don't know if they're expecting candy or what... this is possibly one of the best love songs ever written, because, unlike today's songs (I'm thinking of Hoobastank's "The Reason"), which are primarily focused on the self, this song is entirely about the other person, and how the singer would lay himself down for her, as an act of selfless sacrifice. I beleive this is the highest expression of love possible, and it is sung beautifully |

So let me get this straight... it's perfectly okay for simple plan to say things like "you don't matter" and other insults, but it's bad when the older generation does the same thing. | Simple Plan – Crazy Lyrics

I wrote a song like this once... I was 13 years old. Then I grew up and my balls dropped and I realized you can't just gloss over complex issues with one or two phrases, and make it all so onesided.
The problem with Simple Plan is that they're so damn self-centred, though they pretend to care about other people. If they're so concerned, why is the 2nd line in the chorus, "is anybody gonna save me"? You kids expect someone else to take care of your problems, to "save you". Well guess what? NO one owes you anything, you owe it to the world to prove that you can stand up for yourself and be useful as a part of society.
And please stop bitching about "society". Reality check: You are part of society. We all have a personal responsiblility to help make it better. It's easy to point fingers at rich people and teen magazines as the source of all our problems, but they wouldn't make any money if it weren't for shallow teens that lap this stuff up like your dog on my car's anti-freeze.
So grow up everyone. |

Lennon has said that he was looking for a way out of the Beatles since 1966, and his angst and frustrations come out loud and clear on this heavy blues number. With reference to the line "even hate my rock n roll", Lennon also commonly dismissed much of his work with the Beatles, even going so far as to say that Sgt. Peppers was a piece of garbage. Thus proving that true artists always hate their work, are resentful of those that like it, and offended by those that don't |

Nice theory, 2world, but I don't think Lennon had too much interest in religion at that stage in his life. | The Beatles – We Can Work It Out Lyrics

Gladiator, this one has nothing to do with their relationship with the suits. For that kind of thing, try "You never give me your money". This song is a great example of the conflicting personalities in John and Paul. Pauls optimistic verses, with the hopes of working things out, are contrasted perfectly with John's downbeat, "Life is very short..." And yes it's true, Paul was a bit of a chauvinist and certainly would not condescend to seeing the other's point of view. In fact, one of the main reasons his relationship with Jane Asher ended is because he didn't like the fact that she wanted to be an actress who would be well-known in her own right, not simply as "Paul's girlfriend". He wanted her to be devoted completely to him. Linda, however, had no problem filling in the role of "lifetime adoring groupie" that Paul so desperately wanted. |
