The Beatles – Let It Be Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that Paul specifically meant his mother, but intentionally left the reference ambiguous to make it more universal.

Prince – I Would Die 4 U Lyrics 19 years ago
I wondered if I was the only one who caught that.

Talib Kweli – Around My Way (Feat. John Legend) Lyrics 19 years ago
If you liked it on Dave Chappelle, you should check it out on the album. A little more refined, for better and worse, definitely worth a listen.

Sex Pistols – God Save the Queen Lyrics 19 years ago
To be honest, the Sex Pistols are the J.Lo of punk-- all style and attitude, with nothing to say and nothing worth hearing. Constant sneering does not make you a musician, and giving yourself names like Vicious and Rotten does not constitute thoughtful lyric. Try the Clash. They said more by the end of "Koka Kola" than Never Mind the Bollocks ever did.

The Clash – Lost in the Supermarket Lyrics 19 years ago
When I try to explain to people what it's like to live with clinical depression, I tell them to listen to "Lost in the Supermarket."

Lionel Richie – Hello Lyrics 20 years ago
Paul Anka's cover on Rock Swings was good too. Still, no one can beat Lionel Richie on a Lionel Richie song.

Faith No More – Easy (Commodores cover) Lyrics 20 years ago
Just listened to it for the first time. He skipped the second verse, and his "ooh" sounds awful. I do like his vocals and the direction they took with the percussion and piano. A faithful and fairly innovative cover.

Stevie Wonder – Don't You Worry 'bout A Thing Lyrics 20 years ago
Ironic song about drugs and the need to escape from Wonder's most socially conscious and influential album.

Stevie Wonder – Village Ghetto Land Lyrics 20 years ago
I think it's "infected by the greed". I always took away from it a dual criticism of the apathy towards the working class and of the music industry, where great artists are destroyed or watered down by the money-hungry executives.

Stevie Wonder – Superstition Lyrics 20 years ago
I've heard the drug theories, but I think this is just Stevie having fun with his superhuman musical gift.

Stevie Wonder – He's Misstra Know-It-All Lyrics 20 years ago
The song was meant as a scathing attack on Nixon, but comes through as a statement of the US money culture in general.

The Chi-Lites – A Letter to Myself Lyrics 20 years ago
Although the untrained ear will dismiss both this and "Have You Seen Her?" as run-of-the-mill soul work, no group ever provided a window to the depths of heartbreak the way the Chi-Lites did.
