pretty hate machine has some pretty cringe-worthy lyrics. these one's are particularly bad. the rhymes are so damn cheesy. good music though. |

this is my favorite NIN song. mainly because there's no lyrics here, just his brillant composition. this song says so much more than his "16 year old goth kid" lyrics ever could |

okay, i'm no christian, but trent reznor writes some of the most inane shit i've ever heard. this thought has occurred to everybody with a brain, so it's nothing genius, and he phrases it about as well as a goth 12 year old. good music though. |

this song is a like a shoegazer song. the cool thing about billy is that he tries on tons of different styles, and he almost always does it as well or better than the bands that only play in that style |

this is one of the saddest songs i've heard. has a powerful effect on me every time. it's so melodramatic but it works perfectly somehow. best smiths song by far |

i just think its about his girlfriend cheating on him with some guy. then he can't stop thinking about it, so he goes out on the town to pick up a girl, get drunk/high, whatever, as a kind of revenge/escape |

i think this song is about looking back at your life after you've killed yourself. the young men are people his age in general. "opened and shut, and slammed in our face"= got a glimpse of what life could offer before it slammed the door in your face. "pushed to the limit, then dragged ourselves in"=pushed to the breaking point, then forcefully dragging yourself into death, over the edge. "weary inside, now our hearts lost forever"= being dead and losing your heart forever. "where have they been?"= where have the young men been that makes anything about life worthwhile. it's like he's saying "well, this is life, so where have i really been?" only to realize that the only places he's been to have given him pain- "trauma and degeneration". "watched from the wings as the scenes were replaying"= your life flashing before your eyes, replaying. "can't replace the fear or the thrill of the chase"= the fear of death and the thrilling chase of achieving it. "the sorrows we suffered and never were free"= suffering until dead. i think the "we"/"our" is ian and other people who chose his fate. i never even thought about it in relation to war. i see how that makes sense, too |

i think it's just about a manic love feeling. probably for his wife. i should hope so, at least. i think he almost let her go, but didn't. the happy vibe seems to indicate that. i just think he wants to know what it's like to be all happy and smiley like she is sometimes. i think she's metaphorically high, not literally. just acting all happy. he's just wondering and musing about it and all that stuff. |

| The Cure – All Cats Are Grey Lyrics

the whole album just paints the picture of "grey" depression like the cover of the album. this song's lyrics make perfect sense in that light and i've never thought about it meaning anything else. "pornography" is an anxious, angry, bitter, sick depression, and "faith" is the grey kind, where you're pretty hopeless but it's calmer at least. there's a few anxious songs but it's nothing like "porno" |

after reading this, it kinda sounds like the thoughts of a cutter that suffers from abuse trauma. a panic attack that leads to cutting- "disease shown". the only problem is that this was 1990 and i don't even know if the term "cutter" for self-mutilators existed back then |

i thought it was "animal conditions- deep sentiment". he always says "animal" like "AN-EE-MAL". anyway, it's about human pollution destroying the world i think. |

| Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics

To me, this song is about suicide or suicidal thoughts of an adult who has a crappy job. "a heart that's full up like a landfill"=he has a heavy heart.
"you were so tired, happy, bring down the government"= i interpret this my own way. i'm happiest when i'm tired, about to go to sleep, and i'm dreaming about what i'll do with my life. "a handshake with carbon monoxide"= the suicide method. "such a pretty house, such a pretty garden"= the last innocent, pure though, while he's waiting to pass out in his car. just my take. it's probably totally off the mark. |
