This song speaks almost directly to my relationship with my mother. She throws all of her troubles on me, financially and emotionally, to the point where I feel like I'm raising her instead of the other way around: I heard you cry Every night in your sleep I was so young You should have known better than to lean on me You never thought of anyone else You just saw your pain And now I cry In the middle of the night Over the same damn thing She only ever thinks about herself, getting what she wants, getting whatever she thinks the universe "owes" her, and I'm basically just her crutch to get it. Rent & bill payments, grocery shopping, cleaning house while she goes away with her boyfriend and contributes nothing to my emotional wellbeing. I'm not saying that's what Kelly wrote this song about, but at least to me that's what it means. |
