Hasn't anyone here seen the music video for this song? Its about pinks WWII veteran schoolteacher who is depressed. When he goes to the fletcher memorial home, Napoleon, Queen Elizabeth, Winston Churchill. some guy I think is Lord Trenchard (Founder of the RAF) and even Hitler are there. The Latin American meat-packing glitterati probably refers to the Falkland Wars, (Britains war with Argentina over the Falkand Islands) which Roger Waters was clearly against. Roger Waters does indeed imply that we could have these "tyrants" gassed to death to keep them from causing more chaos and death. God, i am so glad this great rupublican country went to vietnam. that is the best choice this country has ever made. im just glad that hippies arent around anymore like they used to be. what were we supposed to do just sit back in peace and get ass raped? thanks to the greatful dead, we kept support for the war going and we got to kill mor dirty vietcong. well i sais to meself if the dead hadnt been around, we would live in a world run by hippies where everyone is happy and there r no boundaries or religions. GO BLACK EYED PEAS!!!!. They are much better than pink floyd and you all know it. You dont need roger waters when you have fergie, and how can you even compare david gilmore to Taboo. Nick mason and richard wright are communist junkies and you all know it. everyone knoes that echoes is no match to "Dont Phunk With My Heart" and of course, how could Shine on You crazy Diamond be better than "My Humps." At least the music the BEPs make has some sort of dignity and talent in it. Its not all about sex, money, and communist prostitutes like pink floyd music. I think ill stick with the black eyed peas. They are the new voice of this generation and if you are smart, so will you.

What do you mean when you say pink floyd is better than the black eyed peas. The black eyed peas have a much better drummer than pink floyd. And who needs roger waters when we have Fergie. Common, you know its the truth. Pink floyd may have been a one hit wonder with "Bring the boys back home," but the black eyed peas actually hav a lot of good songs. I agree more with crain. Both welcome to the machine and have a cigar are very similar becuase they go together and talk about the music industry. Have a cigar talks about the music industry in a very sarcastic way and welcome to the machine is about the machine (the music idustry) talking to him. I also agree that this song may have somthing to do with syd barret since shine on you crazy diamond and wish you were here are clearly about him.

Actually, Pink brings a groupie into his apartment. The groupie comes into the apartment and starts sayin things like "are all these guitars yours," or "this place is bigger thane my apartment." This shows how the groupie is only interested in materialism and not in pink. The groupie represents the life that Pink is leading which includes fame and materialism. In the first half of the song, he talks about his dying love and his marrige falling apart (he is cheating on his wife.) Then, he realizes he doesnt like this life, so he chases away the groupie (the symbol of this life) saying that, "this is just a passing phase. Just one of my bad days."
