Reminds me of how I felt on my 16th birthday at my party last month, carefree night that I didn't want to end... also of my first date with my wonderful boyfriend that was the week after, ALSO of life in general at sixteen... completely amazing as I know it. :) |

I agree that it's about the first "sexual encounter," and that you get carried away and later realize its true worth, or lack thereof. It reminds me of my first serious SERIOUS relationship, though we didn't have sex or anything (I was 14/15 and it was a year ago). The serious tone of the song also reminds me of how the relationship was so serious, we hardly ever laughed and often "bonded" (not in a dirty sense) in private by just quietly holding hands or whatnot. We were both "lonely" as the song states, there was the "lust" as the song states, and MAN did I slip away and believe it all... I also feel that I can relate to the slight hint of regret in the song as well, though mine is less subtle. Black Celebration is by far DM's best album to date. |

As a Eurythmis/Annie/Dave fanatic, I view this song (through its lyrics and video) as this: The mother (Annie (not in real life of course)) screwed around in high school, got pregnant, it kinda ruined her life, and her now teenage daughter is now becoming a bit of a slut and is easily persuaded by good looking guys to screw around as well. The mother will do anything in her power (even a slightly physical fight in front of teenage daughter's new Italian boyfriend) to keep her "wide eyed girl" from making the mistake that she did.
This is what I like to call a good fricken song. With a good fricken video. |
