James Blunt – You're Beautiful Lyrics 20 years ago
Hmmm, I appologize.

I guess I was wrong.

And you have every right to accuse me of listening to it on the radio, because to be honest, that's they only place I have listened to it besides on the telly.

I don't have the CD, and am not planning on buying it. . . So I'll take your word for it ;)

In addition, since you seem to be quite the James Blunt fan :), can I ask you if my assumption of him commiting suicide in the music video is correct?

I'm simply curious.

Well. . .

Though this is deffinetly not one of my favorite songs, and typically not my type of music, this song sort of flattered me. . . I'm a romantic.

But when I saw the music video, I was thouroughly confused. . . and confused is an understatement. When I had first heard this song (on the radio, perhaps?) I felt as if I could relate to the lyrics. . . even if his voice can be a little irritating. The song was pretty self-explanitory. . . a man saw a beautiful woman, and realizes that they can never be together.

But never did I realize that this man was so serious about the woman.

Maybe I misinterpretted the music video, but it seems as if he. . . committed suicide over this woman. . . I'm not sure, (hey, maybe he just wanted to take a dive. . . into a freezing pit of water with little clothes on?) but he never came up from the water. . .

For those who haven't seen the video (I recomend you do, simply becase I may not descibe it correctly) but basically, as he is singing the song, he begins undressing (not completely. . .) and lining up some personal items. The video occurs in a cold climate location. . . it is snowing, or has snown. . . snown, ha. . . anyways, then he leaves his belongings, walks toward a cliff-type land feature, and jumps. . . into a pool of water. And then the music video ends, with the water rippling from the impact of the jump. . . but he never returns to the surface of the water.

Anybody care to clarify what the video is implying? Does he really end his life over the girl?

In addition, I believe the lyrics posted are incorrect. . .
"She could see from my face that I was, f. . . high"
I believe James Blunt actually says flying. ;)

Coldplay – Bitter Sweet Symphony (feat. Richard Ashcroft) (Verve cover) Lyrics 20 years ago
Well, I guess I'm the first comment.

I didn't even intend to comment on this song, but because I saw it in the list of songs by Coldplay, I decided I would.

I know that "Bittersweet Symphony" is originally by the Verve. Or at least that's what I've always believed. I've never heard Coldplay perform the song. I've always loved the instrumental as done by the Verve, so I'm curious to if that is consistant in Coldplay's rendition.

If anybody has heard this song (as performd by Coldplay), and would like to comment back, I'd appeciate it.

Anyways, as for the actual meaning. . .
I love this song becasue it expresses so much emotion. I think that it's about somebody, conformed by society, wanting to change themself. They were obviously confronted by somebody who was an individual and made them question their own life. The artist claims "I can't change my mold. . . i'm a million different people from one day to the next", referring to how it's difficult to not reject what society considers acceptible, and how he often sees himself as "a million different people" just to satisfy those around him.
"I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down, Have you ever been down?" That again supports my theory about him being a conformist to society and claiming that he knew no other way to live. He asks if he is alone in his belief. "You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah" I think that that verse is supposed to be taken sarcastically, as in "you know. . . the road that leads to everything" not meaning it in a literal sense.
"I need to hear some sounds, that recognize the pain in me, now. I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now. But the airways are clean and there's nobody singing to me now" The person is free from conformity. . . he is pained, and now he wants everybody to realize that he is changed. . . "Let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now". . . 'it' referring to his individuality.
"Tryin' to make ends meet, You're a slave to money then you die". . . Money, the universal cause of despare and sadness. . . How you slave your life to earn money, but in the end it means nothing, "cause then you die".
This song is very liberating. . . The music, the lyrics, everything about it. . . You can sense the person's emotion, excitement and willingness to change. . . To change not for somebody else, but for himself. . . "It's a bittersweet symphony, this ilfe" meaning, there are good and bad in the world, and depending on how you choose to live your life, you may experience it's bitterness, sweetness, or both.

Music can be interpreted in many different ways. . . depending on who's listening to it, their life experiences, the effect the music has on them. . . Good artist's never truely state what a song means. . . and that's why music is amazing, because it doesn't have to be about one specific thing, but rather, can be about a million different things. . . It all depends on how interpret the song, it's lyrics, the instrumental. . . And my opinion towards the song is only one person's interpretation.

Hmmm, I don't think I clarified myself in my last comment.

I did not intend to state the song was not about drugs. Because it may be, and there is a lot of evidence that supports that it is. I'm not denying it.

Neither am I denying the fact that the Beatles were involved in drugs. I recognize that they were.

I was just trying to provide another perspective.

That's why I included the website, saying that I wasn't sure whether it was factual or not.

It was more of the perspective of the author of the website than my own. I just found it interesting.

To reiterate, no one knows for sure what this song means or why it was written. It's unclear. But it's an amazing song, and to me, it doesn't matter much :)

I truely respect the Beatles for the music they've created. . . and for whatever reason it was written, I'm glad, because it's a great song.

Vanilla Ice – Ice Ice Baby Lyrics 20 years ago
Ahhh, this song is getting way more recognition than it deserves.

I'm usually not one to comment on songs that I don't like, simply because it's wrong to cricize the musical preference of others and claim that mine is superior to everyone elses. In addition, I wouldn't appreciate people commenting negative remarks about songs I like.

Saying that, I believe that my reason for not liking this song is not negative, persay, but rather factual information.

Vanilla Ice stole the beat to the song off of "Under Pressure" by Queen.

Queen. . . a classic rock band. A truely amazing band. I just don't repect artists who aren't creative enough to come up with thier own meldoy. He could have at least recognized the band when he produced the song.

Maybe its just me.

Wow. This song is amazing.

I was first introduced to this song as a piece I was required to play for a concert. I immediately fell in love with the upbeat melody. When I read the lyrics and researched the meaning, I was honestly surprised.

I guess I just never realized that the Beatles were so dark in their music. Dark in a sense, at least. I assume because I hadn't heard all of thier songs and was only familiar with the most well known tracks.

I truthfully haven't read all of the comments, but from the jist of things, I understand that most of the commenters assumed it was about LSD. While it really doesn't matter, because it's their personal life and is a well written song, it is interesting to discover the true meaning, origin and basis of the song.

I found this website concerning the LSD claim. I'm not sure if everything included is factual, but I thought the source was pretty reliable. The site is: http://www.snopes.com/music/hidden/lucysky.htm

Pretty much, it says that the entire LSD "hidden meaning" is coincidental, and that John Lennon didn't realize the initials of the son until after it was released; completely unintentional. Apparently his four-year old son, Julian, had drawn a picture titled "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" or something of the sort, and it inspired him to create the song.

Again, while it really doesn't matter whether the song was about drugs or ot, I thought that I would provide another perspective of the situation.

You make what you want out of it.

Edwin McCain – I'll Be Lyrics 20 years ago
What does this song mean to me? A lot.

Although many may consider this song typical to the many romantic songs produced, I think that this song is different. A song doesn't have to be complicated to be beautiful.

For those interested, the song was, indeed, redone by the Goo Goo Dolls. Somebody in an early comment mentioned that they thought it was originally by the band. . . I'm sure that's been clarified by now though.

The Goo Goo Dolls rendition is nearly just as good. It does its justice to the song. A lot of songs that are re-done by artist are not necessarily as good, but I think that Goo Goo Dolls did an excellent job in expressing the lyrics. It's a little different, a bit less mellow, I believe? But nontheless, great.
