| Tool – 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"Ignorant fibbers in the congregation. Gather around spewing sympathy. Spare me... None of them can even hold a candle up to you, Blinded by choices hypocrites won't see. " Best sums up Maynard's feelings for his mother in this song, in my opinion. Though I agree that the "Give me my wings" (and preceeding) part is by for the most musically moving part of the album. What goes through my head: You've been through Hell for 10,000 days and your faith hasn't flickered. The pain, the terror.. but you never gave up. There's sympathy for you, but they might be lying- they're nothing like you. In fact some of them didn't like you- but they're blind, they can't see, they're a Judas to you. And now that you'r gone, in fact, they're going to be blind. Let the rain come pouring down, but what will they do when the rivers overrun? Without you there to lead them on. You are the one, the only, the absolute; you're going to go to Heaven and when you get there, you have the right to ask for the Father, for his Son, for the holy Spirit. You can hold your head up high, your voice can be loud, you have the right. You've earned it. You'd better get your fucking wings... you've never lived a lie, you've never taken a life. And you've saved mine. You deserve your wings... you wanted to walk, but now you don't have to any more... |

Does anyone know of a site that lists what he says at the end of the song (on the Before These Crowded Streets version)? I keep on thinking I know what he says but it's really hard to tell and it's really freaking annoying. Awesome song, though, one of my favourites of DMB. |

Such a sad, sad, pretty song. I especially like the fourth stanza, rather thought-provoking. I'd say this song is pretty much out in the open and isn't really hiding any hidden meaning behind it. |

| Tom Waits – Hoist That Rag Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Y'know, personally I think that by "hoist that rag" he doesn't mean a flag of any sort. What else do you hoist? Sails. Hoist them sails, 'cept this's a pirate ship, me scum-eyed beauties so ye'll be hoistin' a rag t'day. Never really bothered to digest in hidden meaning in this one, though. |

ButNeverOutgunned, the phrase "why do they always send the poor" isn't even from this song. It's from another of theirs, can't remember which, but not this one. "We fought your wars with all our hearts You sent us back in body parts You took our wills with the truth you stole We offer prayers for your long lost soul" Think that this means that: The soldiers were fighting the wars with all of their hearts, and then getting blasted apart (of which both points are obvious), and then that the government took made them act against their true wills trough propaganda- we offer prayers for the government b******s' souls. "The remainder is an unjustifiable egotistical power struggle at the expense of the American dream" Though the first time this line comes up in the song it doesn't make a lot of sense, in coordination with later points it does: the remainder of the facts are that this is all just an unjustifiable, egotistical power struggle that the government goes through to help nobody but their own wallets, in the name of the American Dream, but sacrificing it. The remainder of the chorus, is saying that people don't give a fuck about the profits the government wishes to obtain through war. "There is no flag that is large enough To hide the shame of a man in cuffs... etc. " There isn't a flag in the world that is important enough, even the fiercely patriotic American flag, to hide the shame of a wrongdoer. The government's propaganda is all "We are strong brave proud Americans who love our country, look at our big happy flag!" - literally- and we can see through it. You're trying to hide by closing the blinds and trying to draw our attention away from what you've done, trying to change our minds- basically spreading more propaganda that says "We're sorry for all that propaganda" (which is quite funny, really) . That's what I think, anyways. =) |

| System of a Down – Holy Mountains Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
http://www.bestirantravel.com/sights/azarbaijan/azarbaijan.html Go there, look at the caption under the first picture. "Someone's blank stare deemed it warfare" "Someone's mouth said paint them all red" It seems to be about a war or massacre of some sort relation to the River Aras and likely Mnt. Ararat at the same time. As Mnt. Ararat is a holy mountain that would make lots of sense. Also, it being the genocide would also make lots of sense. That's all I'll say. |
