I don't think this is at all a "Love" song in the romantic sense. I think its more like anti-racism peace around the world type thing. Especiallys since it starts wtih "With a little love, and some tenderness We'll walk upon the water We'll rise above this mess With a little peace, and some harmony We'll take the world together We'll take 'em by the hand 'Cause I've got a hand for you 'Cause I wanna run with you" Either way, H&TB deserve a lot more credit than they are usually given. They have managed to create a killer tune, awesome vocals, and undeniably great lyrics, no matter what they really mean :D :) |

I thinks its about our daily work cycle. How everything is so much about time and $ that its truly meaningless. "Talk of circles, and punching out. Looking in, drawing circles down." pictures some guy at work bored killing time by doodling and drawing circles, can't wait till its time to leave. The rest of the lyrics also support this. "Like Pilate I have a dog". Pilate is eerily close to "Pilot". So its like a Pilot who needs a sog to lead him walk the streets and through the regular walks of life. Maybe its just me. What do u guys think ? |

Love? The passion of singing with a band like NIrvana? Inner struggle between him and his self? Once again, Dave cleverly writes lyrics that allow room for interpretation. It is the listener who decides for his/her self what the lyrics are all about. I have considered maybe he's expressing sadness/emotion at Nirvana's Demise. But yet again, as so many have correctly put it: Not everything is about Nirvana / Kurt Cobain. Perhaps he is struggling within himself to "walk away" from that sad demise? perhaps he is in love swith some one and this is a metaphoric song about her? Who knows, or cares? Just enjoy the song in the way YOU understand it. RAWK ON :D |

Although the Courtney Love theory is certainly possible, and although I can't stand her personally, I don't think this song is about her. The lyrics are too "vague" and indirect to imply Courtney and ONLY courtney. As some have mentioned, it only means what the listener wants it to mean :D :) Dave is so talented. He was (and still is) probably the best drummer ever, and he doesn't mind getting behind the drums every now and then to do the drumming for the songs himself! Way to go Dave. Keep up the good work :) |

I think its pretty obvious. A decent guy who respects girls and doesn't toy with their feelings is dumped and is left heart broken. "On the night you murdered love" and "You poisoned the moonlight When you put out the sun Close your eyes and say Nothing lasts a day You're wasting my time Yet I love to love you" simply say I love(d) you so much yet you leave me hurt and alone and you dump me. A sad tune, but a favorite one of mine from the 80s :D :) |

Women are like Parking Spots. All the good ones are already "taken". I do agree with the theory that he seeks a woman that does not exist because she is too "perfect". Maybe Cake intended this to show that instead of looking for "Miss Perfect" one should look for a decent woman since no one is perfect! :D :) |
