This song is all Robbie taking the piss! It's not serious at all, it's for Robbie fans to have a good laugh with him. Rob did say that there is a lot of irony when he sings: "It's not very complicated I'm just young and over-rated" If you don't get the joke, you'll just think he's egotistic; but if you do get it, it's a laugh. |

Yeah, I think his reference to Angels could again be his mother or nan, as the song "Angels" is probably about his family being there for him. "Better Man" is more Rob than Robbie; he is sinciere and unsure of himself, and he is hoping to learn from his mistakes and his pain, all to make him a better man. |

I think this song has a lot about APPEARENCE and REALITY Every verse line contradicts itself, which reflects the battle between Robbie and Rob. There is a lot of celebrity reference because it's a world where he's been sucked into & it really affects him. Btw, this song is NOT the reason for the split between Rob and Guy Chambers. It's a very strong song and Rob is rightly proud of it. |

I'd agree with you, rumi; every word has its meaning and strung together makes it deeply lyrical. It could be interpreted in many ways, and I like your analysis of it. I absolutely love the harmony also! It's so sweet! Anyone who hasn't heard it yet must. It could well be Robbie's finest work to date. Some other lines are "If it ain't broke then break it Oh the damage done" which could be to do with breaking the ice?You'll never know 'til you try sort of thing. "Your lifetime in a second All the damage done" could emphasise that. This is a great song; the lyrics and music both blend into eachother to make it rich with sorrow. The lyrics suggest that he (Robbie) is depressed in some points. I think this song is a reflection of our colapsing society, set in the future possibiltiy. Take the first lines: "Out of a million seeds Only the strongest one breathes" - meaning that only the richest/most powerful/strongest person will lead. "Daddy where's the sun gone from the sky? What did we do wrong, why did it die? And all the grown ups say 'sorry kids we got no reply'" - means that we won't know how we destroyed the sun, our means of living. But in the end, our love will always be our energy. "If you're willing to change the world Let love be your energy I got more than I need When your love shines down on me". |

"And I know that you can make my wish If my wish is pure" He's begging for forgiveness, and again; "But I don't know I just don't know I don't know Let me love you so" If you refer to the song 'Angels', many people thought that he was comparing his mother to angels. I love this song, it's 'Beautiful', it really is. I'd agree with the idea of his singing of his ex-girlfriend, because it is rather extreme that he committs suicide because of a love-at-first-sight moment. But then again, RomanChristopher (pg4) raises a good view about his girlfriend's dead, and his 'plan' is to portray him in heaven with her, hence the video. But then he says "She was with another man", so is this an ex that died when she was taken by the other guy? And how did they connect, "But we shared a moment that will last till the end" if one's in heaven? The more you think about it, the more confusing it can get! I also think the line "Fucking high" spoils the mood of the song, and would prefer it if it kept as "Flying high". Oh, and read toenailkiller's poem on page 2, it relates to the song. I like it. This is purely a song from his heart, I love it! I just love relating to all the lines and playing it on the piano, it's so bitter with his strong emotion towards his former band Take That. Quite a few of his songs off 'The Ego Has Landed' are of that sense. The last chorus isn't right. Talk about hatred!! This is what you get when you put your true feelings into a song. I love to play it when I'm feeling that way towards someone too! It's a clear message to his former band Take That saying (in an extreme way) you tried to destroy me - "You thought you'd leave me falling forever Karma Killer". And the line "Look what you didn't take from me" is basically throwing the cream pie in their faces and saying 'look at me now, you suckers!' "I hope you choke On your Bacardi and Coke". |

This is a hugely emotional song and clearly deserves every recognition it gets.Voted Britain's #1 song of all time I believe? (I'm in NZ, so I'm not that up with it!) time4heroes has a very valid point, and I'd agree with him/her. It does make sense that this song is about his mother. And the way his mother is compared to an angel is really sweet. "she breathes flesh to my bones" - meaning that his mother gives him strength when he's feeling down. "I'm loving angels instead" |
