| Maritime – Apple of My Irony Lyrics

Weeds, the apple of my irony
in time you open up your wounds
so you've got something to cauterize weeds,
I'm growing lines around my eyes
they're called smile lines
is that how I got mine?
We can grow out of our shoes
there's no time so there's no time
to lose on this fireball
we're riding on we're firing on.
Weeds, so many bars and resting haunts
so many here so many gone.
If walls could talk they'd say we can grow out of our shoes there's no time
so there's no time to lose on this fireball we're riding on. |

This song just sounds like getting very far away from something or someone. It's a pretty good song, one of the weaker ones on Paper Walls though. I think the whole international date line is pretty clever though. |

Anyone familiar with Yellowcard's history will know that this song is undoubtly about Ben Harper, former guitarist. When Ben's name was erased from Yellowcard's roster, there was a pretty big uproar from the fans. Everyone made it sound like Ryan Key's faultm but this song makes it seem like Ben is more to blame.
"Where did you go?
I need to know
I waited here, you never showed
It's gonna be harder for me
I can't forgive so many things
When you weren't there, I was around
Why would you try and hurt me now?"
It sounds like Ben did some pretty bad stuff from this verse, and Ryan was there trying to fix things.
We'll never know what happened in that situation, but this song makes me think it was not as one sided as Ben and many Ben aficionados made it out to be. |

Like many of Yellowcard's songs, this is once again about a relationship gone awry. In the beginning, the narrator is very conflicted. It sounds like he was not completely honest, and now that things have gotten really bad, he looks back with regret, wishing he could have done things differently. It seems like the song is about the narrator and his future ex-lover talking to try and salvage the relationship, even though he knows that any effort will be fruitless. The narrator wants everything to be okay, but it won't; he just cannot continue. She apparently fell pretty hard for him, but he says that "he's just bad news for you." But the relationship in this song is over due to lack of honesty.
This is a really powerful song, and is one of the best on Paper Walls, and one of Yellowcard's best ever. The vocals are very powerful, and I'm impressed at Ryan K. and Yellowcard on a whole for this album. |

This is a great song. The instrumentals are so good. This may be Yellowcard's best album opener to their best album. |

This song as well as this entire CD is just as good as old Jane's Addiction. I am surprised and thoroughly impressed. Great job Perry Farrell and the rest of Satellite Party. |

I think this may be one of my favorite songs ever. I can't stop listening to it. At around 3:45, when the song develops into a new movement is my favotite part. Simply amazing. Probably the best song they've ever written. I don' think this song can real be interpreted; it just is. |

I find it interesting that this song is still relevant 15 years after its creation, while the songs on Green Day's American Idiot for example, will lose their relevancy in a year, as it was just tirade against George Bush. In this song, Guns N Roses attacks the ideas, instead of taking cheap shots at the president. |

This song is about a transition in someone's life. Obviously, through the chorus, the writer is troubled, and doesn't know which path to take. He longs for success, but is afraid that he will not live up to the expectations put upon him by himself, or his family for example.
This is a great song. One of my favorites on the CD. |
