| Elliott Smith – Talking to Mary Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i have to agree to junkbondtrader1500. this song isn't about mother mary or dope, it is about a prostitute he fell in love with - Pretty Mary K. I personally believe that he switches the roles in between, so that "she" is Mary and "you" is himself, while in the refrain, "I" is himself, and "you" is Mary. hmm ... well. got another thought now. The money on your socks, makes me think, that he isn't switching the roles, but that the "you" is another prostitute who sees Mary as some kind of mentor. Mary disappears and she wants to follow her. but i gotta think about that. |

i believe that this song might be about disabled/retarded people, living in a body they can't get out, not knowing what they are talking about. "I do not Understand What it is I've done wrong" expresses perfectly the "Why me?", the one question, that many physically disabled ask themselves every day. Why me? but i believe, that thom isn't talking about natural disability, but man-made disability via genetic experimentation. i think the line "It is the 21st century" may reference this, as well as "They got a skin and they put me in" may reference the genetic creation of the perfect child (intelligent, beautiful and immune to illness). the "protagonist" would in this case be a human, being disabled because of his man-made genome. what do you think?? greetings p.s. could also have to do with drugs! ;) just a joke |

x & y are the chromosomes that decide which gender a human (and most animals) gets. a woman's ovule definitely has a x-chromosome. the gender depends on the gender-chromosome of the male's spermatozoon that merges with the ovule. if it's x then the baby will be female. if it's y it'll be male. so ... i think it's about men and women in general. love and its problems. the differences (and biological and mental distance) between both genders. |

| Autolux – Sugarless Lyrics | 20 years ago |

well, i think this song is about a couple breaking up. "impossible day i don’t complain i’m over it i guess scattered and grey so i hold it back and keep it sugarless" i think eugene and carla are the both parts of that couple, so guy and girl, that's why the refrain is song twice. they both feel the same way about their relationship. you see, that they aren't really over it, cause they add "i guess" at the end of that line, making them look uncertain. so they somehow still feel for each other, but don't admit it to themselves. but they both don't wanna go on, so that they keep their upcoming emotions "sugarless" ("i hold it back and keep it sugarless"). well ... in the end one part realizes the situation and caves in ... just without a reason ("you just caved in yeah. it came from nowhere") |
