mewithoutYou – The Sun and the Moon Lyrics 19 years ago
I understand where you're coming from, but im sorry to say i disagree with your interpretation. The list of people in the beginning weren't faltering in their faith in the moments Aaron's referencing. Daniel refused to bow to the idol like Nebuchadnezzar ordered, because he only worshipped God. Peter, though he got scared after a couple steps, took that step from the ship to the water out to Jesus, which was a huge act of faith triumphing against huge odds. Job had everything go wrong for him, but he remained faithful the whole time.
The narrator is saying in his story about his garden that it was great, but something bad happened to it, and he assumed he had upset God. The Sun and the Moon are the two sides of God: the side that allows good to happen to us and the side that allows what we see as bad things to happen. Aaron is saying that both good and bad things happen, even to believers, and that this is all part of God's plan... we need to have faith in it though.

mewithoutYou – Messes of Men Lyrics 19 years ago
it's out of reverence. Aaron didn't always do it, cause it's not like that on their other albums, but he started to do it on the band's bulletin board lately. i think its similar to what Hebrews used to do when they were writing the name of God (Yaweh). They would never write the vowels in case they messed them up or something, so they always wrote YWH. it's not necessary persay, but if it helps him to be closer to God I admire him for it.

Dashboard Confessional – The End of an Anchor Lyrics 19 years ago
I started off thinking this was about a girl, but the more I look at it, the more I believe it's about God...

"I was away for a while
But I'm hoping someday you'll forgive me
Though I don't deserve it
I'll cherish it well if you give me "one of your new starts""
-that's the first clue... God is, by nature, a God of second chances, especially undeserved ones... Chris fell away from Him and now he wants forgiveness

"In earlier days, they'd persecute people
They'd carry them off, and hobble their legs
For lesser offenses, and how I have harmed you
And still you allow me to walk free of pain"
-this stanza's the big hint. they really didn't persecute people who screwed up in relationships... they persecuted people who took God's name in vain though... and blasphemers etc... this song truly is about Chris' fall away from God and his desire to return to Him.

"Though I punish myself
I will never settle
The debts I've incurred for scorning the face
Of absolute beauty, and measureless grace
And though I once mocked you
I'm dying to pay for it now
I'm dying to pay for it now"
-others have already made points about this one

"I wasn't well for a while
I savored the things that I knew were sure to destroy me
And that seemed to hold me
That seemed to carry me where I couldn't go
On the strength of my own
Well, I should've known
That gets me nowhere
I've learned that now I swear"
-unless he's saying that that girl is his strength, something to keep him from sin, than this is definitely about falling away and realizing his mistakes

also, failureofreality is right... God definitely can be hurt by our sin... although He is all powerful, He is also very intimate and caring. Plus, chris wrote his first two albums essentially about one breakup, of course they're going to be about girls... only a little more than half of the songs on mmbs are though... he was part of further seems forever, a Christian band, before dashboard as well...

that being said... i did initially think it was about a girl, but there are some parts of the song that cant be overlooked.

ok first off, knarf, if every religion is a path to God, then why is it that there are so many disagreements in what they say? Secong of all, all of those religions you mentioned essentially came from two places: judaism and hinduism. Christianity came directly from judaism, and Muhammad, who was first an arab merchant, took a lot of the ideas (not the most important one, though: a savior) of God as Christians and Jews saw Him and manipulated them so that they would be his own invention. Muhammad then became a general and started the muslim empire. What better way to gain an army than to start a religion. Hinduism essentially made up its own gods, there are more and more appearing wherever people choose to have them. Buddhism was an offshoot of that. Buddha was a hindu prince. For the record, too, Buddhism, the way Buddha taught it, did not really have a god. it was about connecting with yourself. later on people started to worship buddha as their god. If you really want to get into it... there are a lot of things which separate Christianity from any of these religions, and which give it more validity. there is more science and fulfilled prophesy in the bible than any other book... As far as what you said, CAMeye, i definitely do admit that christians have mad terrible mistakes in the name of God (the crusades), but that cannot take away from what Jesus did. Have you ever thought that there must be some reason why Christ's message has lasted this long? because nothing can disprove it. If the bible could be disproved, then so could christianity. I respect what you believe, but i dont think you have enough reason to call it lame.
