yeah. agreed. That is actually why i left the church over a year ago. Then I came across Messianism. They seem a little more real, and can point to His Word for almost everything they do, at least in my congregation. |

| Tim McGraw – I Need You (feat. Faith Hill) Lyrics

IT's funny but two lines in this song remind me of two other songs; one particularly affects the meaning for me, although i doubt it's an actual reference.
"I wanna ride 'cross West Virginia in the backseat of a Cadillac" makes me think of "Black Cadillacs" by Modest Mouse
"I wanna wrap the moon around us and lay beside you skin on skin" makes me think of "Bones" by The Killers |

That makes sense. I always laughed at this line because my brother can be rather prejudice and because of my offence to the n-word he replaced it with "kuta kente" and in turn "Toby" (Roots). He felt rather justified in hearing this song. |

Based on the video, it seems his girl has left him for a lesbian. It probably hurts him even more as a man because she needs something he can't provide, but that part is just speculation. The same thing happened to me a while back. |

but tef, indie isn't just music, it's a scene (or an arms race...oh nvm). by departing from what is expected from even the "most loyal indie fans," doesn't it make them even more indie?
nonetheless, does anyone else think the guitar sounds influenced by the alman bros. at all. I know it is the same as the original, but maybe the original was as well. |

| The Killers – Sam's Town (Abbey Road Version) Lyrics

Why is this the "Abbey Road" version? This song definitely shows the changes in their music. The musci in the original Sam's Town is very simmilar to the first album, made me think of Midnight Show when he started yelling. I also like the beginning of the original, it makes me think of Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight." I somewhat agree with vodkavertigo and foundthevelvetsun7. This one does seem a bit more emotional; if only because its not so heavily synthesized. Very clear Also, i really like the melodies at the end, particularly on this one. They are very American sounding. Maybe it is just me but there is a lot of their music that i hear and consider it truly American, beyond the references in the lyrics. Like the guitar in the beginning of "All These Things that I have Done." Am I the only one who thinks this? |

I've liked this song since i first saw the video on tv about a 6 months or so ago. I knew the title meant beautiful treason, but i didn't completely understand it until i did some translating. Suprisingly now that i know what she's saying, it ties in perfectly to a recent breakup, only if the roles were reversed.lol. |

I think its a far stretch to say that white people don't experience racism. I'm mostly white and being a military brat i've been around enough places and have seen how people fit in in the heirarchal race chain, and white people are not always on top. I'm not trying to sound White Supremist or anything of the sort...far from it. Racism can and does affect people of all colors. As far as the song goes, i do agree that a good portion of it is refering to racial issues, but some of it is ambiguous enough to be view however you want. Personally i think it is about racism, but it could also just be talking about crap that goes on in the world and how people just turn a blind eye to it.

Yeah, i had a kiss like that once, and now i wish i never did, because nothing can beat it.
And livelikenotomorow it is a simile not a metaphor, because it uses the word "like" to directly describe the connection of lips and morphine. if he used a phrase like "her lips were morphine" or "the morphine of her lips knocked me flat on my a--" that would be a metaphor. |

I agree with TNC. It's one of the reasons i hate Hawthorne Heights so much, besides the fact they can't play or sing. I've watched fuse tv a few times at my friends house, but i wouldn't watch it if it were available to me, because, and i don't mean to offend, even though it plays mostly music (different than mtv) it still has way to much advertising. I mean beyond the commercials, there are the subliminal stuff. I'm just tired of this whole thing of "you have to dress this way to listen to this music." I dress as the stereotypical "prep" but i love metal and hardcore just as much as anyone else, and i will fight for my music against anyone who disagrees.
Now i will gracefully stepp off my soapbox and just say, "I like this song, and i think it's talking about..." |

I'm suprised with how much myspace has advertised them, few people have posted any comments on here. Their music is astounding, but i'd like to know what their lyrics are talking about. Is the whole album like this, i mean do the songs run together to form a more lengthy and detailed...whatever? IDK, but just based on the music they're good. |

Whats most interesting is that this is written from his perspective as a twelve-year-old of this mans life . He envied this man, who in a childs eyes, was well maritally, financially, and socially. This was his first time encountering suicide. I kind of forget where i was going with this because i was a little drunk when i started writing this so i will have to wrapp it up later. |

I cant believe only one person has commented this song.
Thankyou one person. I love this song. It makes me laugh because whenever tattoos are discussed everyone always has to say, " don't get anyone's name tattooed on your body. What if you're not with that person forever?" like you didn't think of that yourself. You never hear anybody say, "Go ahead, get her name on your chest, arm, d--k. If it don't work out you can just get another on over it. |

Why does Brandon Flowers have to constantly defend his sexuality? He has stated that he is not gay and that he hated how everyone thought he was gay because of "Andy your a star." Why would he even write it from a gay perspective if he didn't want people to think that of him.
And to ultradirty, you can't turn a song into christian rock shit...even if they played it on a christian station how would that change the song? |

First: the two lines "Can we climb this mountain...I know we can make it if we take it slow" Brandon used in an interview to describe the process of making this album. Not that it affects this songs meaning, but it should be taken into consideration, esp. since it may be a recurring theme in this mext album.
Also, i've always heard that the "devils water" is liquor. It could be her vice.
Maybe i am reading to much into this, but it seems that Brandon puts a lot of thought into his songs, esp. ones with religious themes in it. Pictures of Jesus often romantacise (sp?) as an attractive looking man, and to see this image of an atractive person, people associate it with the person he was and the good things he did. This guy, not looking like Jesus, Maybe even being unnatractive, but talking like a gentleman, represents how Christ really was; humble in appearance and spirit, and good hearted.
I guess its just a song about a girl who found a guy who will treat her right.
Sry for such a long post... |

I think its so kewl how the Abats have never been a very popular band but if you look at the comments for this song. The first on started in 2002 and there has ben a steady flow of comments. Most other songs' comments are within a month and people just stop posting. this is just one of those bands that will not go away easily. Even if they lost most of their fanbase, they would probably go back to old days when they were just playing at small venues. |
