surrendered, ur close but uve got it around the wrong way.. right concept tho.. this song is the hardest on the album because it is the final apocalypse before satans birth.. think of the worlds greatest evil force preparing their attack.. like before a massive storm.. the sun wont rise.. stone and ice form the devils army (metaphorical).. the trees are dead but theyre alive more than ever (the cold and lack of sunlight has killed the earth but its alive more than ever with the presence of satans army about to become born again)... its sung from the perepective of a mortal.. a believer in god.. he is saying he fears a world without the sun but never the evil who wished it gone (which is where the concept surrendered outlined is on the right track).. "and now the ground pulses, constricting for birth" - the devils army are about to break through... im not religious at all.. in fact i hate religion.. but these guys are phenomenal in the way they create such an epic battle in the listeners mind (lyrically, vocally and musically).. awesome band... |

| Follows the whole 'exploration' theme of the rest of the album. Sound Awake is a very anti-religious album as religion is seen as a suppressor to seeking and open-mindedness. Illumine is basically saying forget all that religion has taught you and look to other possibilities. "Don't listen, don't even hear a sound they make it breaks you" - religion focuses on eliciting fear in peoples minds to get them to believe, e.g. fear of dying, etc... "So lead us on through the world of false promise" - self explanatory of the concept of religion. Anyway, awesome song. Awesome album.... | |

On the backend of the album, this song sounds almost like an unexpected ending.. Lets say, even a twist in the plot.. ill explain..... So by now its common knowledge that the album is based around events with the ouija board.. The general flow of the album implies a continual deeper engagement with the board.. And the deeper TMV gets into this love/lust/murder triangle, the stronger Goliath's grip is on them... Goliath's intrigue with a second chance starts with Aberinkula and Metatron.. Lines like "You'll be the one who opens the gates" and "This is a list, heres my demands" are the beginnings of Goliath's manipulation of the boards user so find a way back to 'the living'.. Then the album moves on to Ilyena and Wax Simulacra.. Both of which bring the sense that Goliath is manipulating the users to perhaps understand why he did what he did, eg. "If you could see where ive been, you'd touch the hand thats touching sin".. Basically saying, 'i had no choice, you would have done the same thing so help me get what i want'... Then the album moves onto Goliath, which i believe is TMV's first real beginnings of an obsession with the board.. "Never heard a man speak like this man before".. They're getting drawn in to the Soothsayer's web.. And Goliath can see this in Tourniquet.. He offers to return the favour by protecting TMV.. "Let me be your tourniquet man.. let me keep you as a favour"... Then everything really starts to get kinda freaky and twisted with Cavalettas and Agadez, with Goliath's story becoming more gruesome and decrepit while his requests turn into demands and the board becomes plain fucking scary.. "If you force me often, i might jump off the board" is a chilling warning, but by this time TMV's obsession has grown too strong and they continue to play with fire... All hell breaks loose and things have become out of control by the time Askepios and Ouroborous rip in.. Its becoming apparent that Goliath cannot be shaken easily and the band can see a vicious cycle forming.. They cannot push this curse off them.. And Goliath's grip only strengthens ("Don't you ever trust my mercy").. Until they reach a point with Soothsayer that would imply some sort of sacrifice.. They've given up and are succumbing to Goliath's demands and wishes.. "We have become these pleads" is saying 'we've become what we were begging mercy for'.. And it would seem that Soothsayer is the culmination of the rest of the album....until....... ...Conjugal Burns breaks in... My interpretation of this song is that TMV have succumbed and are becoming Goliath's pathway to the present.. "The horsemen you have brought deserve me, somehow theyve made it through the floor".. Evil has come from hell to claim them.. It is as if TMV are then asking for one more chance to live where they are until they are taken into the Soothsayers realm.. "...before this visit turns conjugal, ever more.." The whole second stanze is Goliath speaking.. He is telling TMV the reasons for what hes done but gets to a point where he cannot explain anymore... "Ive got a pain inside...", "God gave me sin", "Ive got to be born", "theres too many reasons"... This compassion that he is feeling is thenturned when he realises himself and puts the oweness back on TMV.. "You sent yourself the flood".. Saying theyve done this to themselves.. But in the moment of freedom he is allowing TMV before they are taken with him, he becomes complacent as the tables are turned... "And I'm nowhere near the place. You sent me here to breathe. This section is where Goliath realises hes been tricked.. The TMV have shed his presence by cutting up the board and burying it.. And Goliath realises once its too late and the door has slammed shut, "I'm nowhere near the place, you sent me here to breathe"... "But I'm drawing closer to the present. And I'll find a space with no memories. I've got a second chance to inhabit the living. If Goliath wont speak I'm blinded by heaven. TMV are drawing closer to the present, as in they are escaping the grips of Goliath.. 'A place with no memories' could be a reference to the fact that Cedric did not want the boards burial site to be told to him.. and the band "have a second chance to inhabit the living" while the prospect of dying is not such a bad sight now that they are not forced to spend an eternity in the depths of hell... anyway i know that was ridiculously long but post ur thoughts.. im interested to see what people think |
