Nickel Creek – Green and Gray Lyrics 20 years ago
I have always thought of the beginning of this song as a group of people having a party and the guy that it's about seems almost perfect. Everyone loves him, except for one girl who is to preoccupied with herself that she doesn't even notice him. Of course, as a perfectionist, he beats himself up over it, but can't tell anyone because he likes to be adored and thought of as perfect--he doesn't want to mess up his reputation by sounding weak or sad.

Bright Eyes – Take It Easy (Love Nothing) Lyrics 20 years ago
I've always thought that this song was about a young man who slept with a close friend (a woman a bit older than him, or more experienced) and she realizes that it was just a dumb fling, but to him sex was still a big deal and he felt connected to her (perhaps it was his "first time"?). Then, he realizes that he can detach himself from women by not getting to know the people he sleeps with (distancing sex and a relationship). This realization definitely echos "Lover I Don't Have to Love," except that in "Lover..." his philosophy makes him sad in the end.

Bright Eyes – Take It Easy (Love Nothing) Lyrics 20 years ago
The only two reasons that I don't want Bright Eyes to be the "next big thing" are: 1) most new fans probably wouldn't even listen to the older stuff, which is extremely amazing; 2) I wouldn't like to see Conor prostituted when it seems clear that he doesn't want fame from his music--I think he'd end up in a position like Kurt Cobain did a while after Nirvana hit the mainstream.

The Dandy Warhols – We Used To Be Friends Lyrics 20 years ago
I have a history of ending up with really bad new friends and losing the really amazing friends that I had before, and so this song to me is that strange experience when you start talking to a former friend and you still feel a connection and realize that you made a mistake.

erinsemotears-Have you any clue how LAME it is to like a song less because of what it's been on? That's like people who love an indie band and then the same band gets onto a major label and they get a lot of exposure, but they still realese the same music and it's still amazing, but since other people know about it they suddenly switch gears and start badmouthing the band.
