Kevin M. Kirker – People Grow From Trees Lyrics 15 years ago
Such an amazingly beautiful song! I love how real the lyrics are and that you can really tell they come from actual experiences. The melody and lyrics are just so touching and the playing just tops it off! Seriously beautiful work Kevin :)

Jimmy Eat World – Pain Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't know if anyone's pointed this out, too many comments to read but I think this is song is quite possibly only about drugs, not relationships. The relationship part of the lyrics could be symbolic for drug addicition.

I never thought I'd walk away from you
I did
But it's a false sense of accomplishment
Everytime time I quit

Anyone can see my every flaw
It isn't hard
Anyone can say they're above this all
It takes my pain away

It makes more sense if it's talking about drugs and his addiction than relationships in relation to the rest of the lyric. And it all fits in because he's using his relationship with drugs as a symbol for a real relationship.

It's a lie, A kiss with opened eyes
And she's not breathing back
Anything but bother me
(It takes my pain away)
Nevermind, these are horrid times
Oh, oh, oh
I can't let it bother me

Makes sense in the chorus too because he's using his relationship to drugs as a symbol again. (It's a lie, A kiss with opened eyes, And she's not breathing back - because his relationship with drugs isn't a real relationship so it's a play in words in a way - quite cool actually).

Also the last line is repeated:

It takes my pain,
takes my pain,
takes my pain,
takes my pain away

and the feel change on the drums accentuates the lyric stressing that 'the pain being taken away' is a crucial part of the song - a reference to the drugs. :)

Bloc Party – Helicopter Lyrics 20 years ago
persoanlly, i think that this song is anti-bush but not really against the american people themselves. im going to copy boss2k slightly

Bush's election campaign ran from "North to south" but was "Running on bravado";

"He doesn't like chocolate" possible reference to Bush's racist stance

"He's born a liar, he'll die a liar"- over Sadam, Iran, etc;

"Stop being so American" is asking us to turn away from the americanisation of our culture; its not the "time" or the "place" to be seen supporting that nation, or the things that characterise it:, such as "James Dean" and "blue jeans";

Bush wants to "save the world," relying on a "miracle" to solve the whole iraq dilemma

"Just like his dad"- ignorant and hard-headed, like Bush Snr. "Some things will never be different";

Hungry and dumb, hungry and dumb (so wait in line)
Queuing up for some more junk food - 1/3 of american children are obese; and "They're getting so much younger"; i think thats partly in reference to that but also partly in reference to the american people (not all but a vast majority) believing the bush influenced media and believing everything that scrode-sucking a**hole has to say.

"Bastard child of guilt and shame/ Bury your head in the sand"- Bush's reluctance to accept the fatal consequences of his actions in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Three out of five, three out of five (it's not enough)
Six out of ten
Better luck next time. - I think thats about the election and the 'better luck next time' line is sarcasm.

It's not my fault, it's not my fault (just this once) - refers to bush not taking any of the blame for everything hes put so many innocent people through and instead pretending he still has a reason for staying in iraq etc. when he just doesn't want to admit hes wrong

I'm thinking six, six, six
I'm thinking six - i think that does actually refer to the 666 devil thing and bush being the devil

Why can't you be more European - i think that just refers to countries who refuse to help america e.g. france etc.

Well thats my opinion. Of course I could be completely wrong and this song could just be about nothing, or a friend etc. lol
