| I can see why it looks like it is from the perspective of the futile. I disagree. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as a side note, I believe Max is jewish. I may be wrong. either way, I believe (and this may sound a little ludicrous) this song is about Adolf Hitler (told from his perspective). Max references the Holocaust in Alive with the Glory of Love. I believe it is about Hitler because it explains the contempt held against the futile. Hitler killed himself (shooting himself, admittedly, but I wouldn't put eating rat poison past him), as he does in the song. The cynical, degrading nature of the song embodies the personality of Adolf Hitler. | |

Both are equally beautiful and incredible, but there's one version that is really unproduced with a sketchy sounding acoustic guitar, and it's one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard. it's a harmonica. i adore this song. favorite line: "im not sleeping until after the dying is over" i feel like this song is expressing how the simple pleasures in life are the best, and the only thing that really makes sense in this life is love, and when love becomes a trainwreck, "you" become a mistake just like everything else. also, based on my favorite line, i feel like he thinks that sleeping is pointless since we need to enjoy every minute of those simple pleasures. i also love the random talking in the background at the end. |

| wow this is "song meanings.com" but only one person has stated what they thought the song meant. thats sad. they nailed it pretty well though. this reminds me of a personal experience. i wont talk about myself, since i know no one cares but i think this means that they had a relationship, ended the relationship, and then he thought he was ok with it. he then realized that he wasnt. he wanted more. he wanted to love the girl and wanted her to love him back. and if that cant happen rite now, he'll "take what he can get". i can relate to that. hes telling her that hes caught in suspension witgh her, and wants to fell like like that again if she'll give him the chance. | |

i was asked today by my religious teacher "what happens to us when we die, as in, do u believe in a heaven or hell?" I bought this cd yesterday. i replied to her this: "Heaven's not a place that you go when you die It's that moment in life when you actually feel alive So live for the moment." if this isnt one of the greatest stories (despite the fact that its considered metaphoric) put into a song then i dont know what is. its brilliant how it says "Love is just a hoax so forget everything that you have heard" referring to teh mothers advice, since shes going through a rough time, but then at the end it changes, because that may have been the advice the mother gave before the children were swept into the ocean, but now "Love's completely real, so forget anything that you've heard." its great because what youve already heard is that love is a hoax, and now you should forget you heard that. because Dade listened to his mothers advice, but look where its gotten him, "swept into the ocean." love is real, and thats how we should live, for the moment. |

| what do u put in a frame? usually a photograph. what do photographs do? they look nice. thats it. they cant do anything. so "shifting through in this frame by frame" is simply implying that he can do nothing but sit there and watch his life go by. and as far as i know, photographs dont lead very exciting lives. | i think this about the post-tradgedy of a relationship, and what a person goes through after they lose something as special as love, and the person they gave it to. i hear a lot of my friends say blink cusses too much to be "cool" but they use it for emphasis, to show they really ARE upset. "fuck i cant let this kill me, let go" is so true. everyone wants to just hold on, even though it seems like thats nearly impossible. "lose myself in your eyes" is my favorite line because thats how it always atarts, and then you miss that sensation once its gone. people write letters to contain emotions that wouldn't go over so well if done in person, my opinion as to why this song was written. obviously he's upset, but if he was to show that to her, hope could be completely lost of ever regaining a relationship. so he resolves to writing a letter. but his emotions are so fierce that "the words get confused and the conversation dies." i often find myself talking to the celing when im depressed, pretending like it was her, pretending like it was the girl i loved, and that right there i wish i could tell her everything. but i talk to the ceiling instead. the last verse implies to me that he has almost completely lost hope, hence "my life just lost all meaning" and "the last star left in heaven, is falling down to Earth, which is why i always felt this song was a "to be continued" type thing, and i wish i knew what happened next. | |

wow. you continue to amaze me Elliott. the way he repeats "the morning after" tells me that he makes a lot of decisions at night and the morning after becomes the consequences, good or bad. "I'm in love with the world, through the eyes of a girl, whos still around the morning after" is saying to me that this girl is the window to his world and hes ultra-happy that she stays with him because without her hed be blinded to the rest of the world. "we broke up a month ago and i grew up i didn't know i'd be around the morning after" means to me that he thought hed coimmit suicide that night, but got up in the morning anyway. "it's always been wait and see a happy day and then you pay and feel like shit the morning after" means to me that they got back together but they keep having on/off problems and his mornings are shit. "situations get fucked up and turned around sooner or later and i could be another fool or an exception to the rule you tell me the morning after" means to me that as i said situations get fucked up, but fixed later, and then one night he asks her if hes fool for loving her, or if it was worth it, and she tells him morning after, a result of his night=decision, morning=consequence pattern. thats all, hope i didnt repeat too much of someone elses. |

| its amazing what Panic! can do with a song. this one for example, they took a gospel theme and made it into this frenzy of symbolism and hidden meanings. "Because I am a new wave gospel" i love how, as was said before, he picks up the beat tremendously in the chorus. As for "douse the lights," since everyones implied that scene kids rule this song, that it is in fact irony because well, "Just stay where I can see you, douse the lights" is irony in itself. Panic! is awesome and they prove that creative songwriting dominates their music. | |

| a lot of you have gotten this his interpretaion down pretty good. but i think theres more. im not here to criticize, because everyone has their own interpretation, including the writer, im just here to say what i think...what i think arthur was trying to imply was of course the fact that this person was in a bad relationship but completely refuses to accept it. i know this from experience, unfortunately. the point is though, that the character DID know that his/her relationship was failing, and apparently badly. which proves to people like me and everyone else whose had that experience that we're not completely blinded by the fact that we want to be with that person, even if our feelings aren't returned. if you thought this song was about drugs then you are on drugs. a song this beautiful and well-written can only be about what most of wish we could understand: love. love, and how to cope with it. the raw hard love, the heart-breaking love, and as this song implys, the sugar-coated love. all of which are connected, and all of which can truly make you go insane. but this song teaches us to swallow any kind of love and deal with it, because if we don't, where are we? lost, helpless, and confused, like the person in this song. a few great lines in this song are "I just found a friend in one of your lies," which of cousre says what everyone else thought, trying to make the best out of the situation by befriendng the false. another was "I miss you so good," and "All of those nights we lost our way back home." i'll let you decipher them. and last but not least "Bringing the past with the postcards you sent for me." this to me meant that this same situation has happened to him before, and what she was doing was a postcard to him from the past. i absolutely love the way he drew that one together. or at least in my mind. i dont care if you buy the cd, or the song, i just enforce that you listen to it, however hopefully legally you can. it will change you, as it has changed me. if i haven;t bored you to this point, take my advice and don't make the same mistake the Ever So Sweet person did, because i can promise you'll regret it, as did i. thank you. | |
