The Shins – Turn On Me Lyrics 19 years ago
The narrator is breaking up with his girlfriend. The irony is that she, not him, was the one who knew what they had wasn't working. But for whatever reason -- she might have thought things would get better, or maybe she was looking out for his interests -- she hid that knowledge, and kept what they had going.

But the narrator finally comes to the conclusion that the girl had already reached: the relationship won't work. So he tries to act like he's the only one who wants it to end, and tries to comfort her by telling her to "get back on that horse and ride." As if there's someone or something out there, better than him.

Iron & Wine – Upward Over the Mountain Lyrics 19 years ago
"Mother, remember the night
That the dog had her pups in the pantry?"

I think Sam and the woman he was with were the dog, and the pantry symbolizes hiding. Meaning they had children, and they tried to keep his mother from knowing.

Sufjan Stevens – The Mistress Witch from McClure (Or, the Mind That Knows Itself) Lyrics 19 years ago
I think they might be saying:

Oh my God
[Maybe "Mother"?] came to our side
And carried us away

That's what I'm getting from the background vocals.

The title seems to be a reference to the Stanley Hubrick film "Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb."
