i absolutely ADORE this song.. one of my favorites on american idiot. billie joe said on storytellers on vh1 that he almost didnt put this song on the record but his wife adrienne convinced him to do it.. i'm so glad she did. people have posted a lot of different meanings for this one.. i have to go with the drugs one - st jimmy/jos resorting to drugs to escape his problems/feelings... novacaine being a metaphor for drugs since novacaine numbs to prevent pain |

"When it apes insane" should be when it GOES insane but anyway, i think this song is about thinking that maybe you should conform to the standards of society but realizing that that's crap, just be yourself |

hm no comments here? i'm not entirely sure about what this song means but i can tell that "Your conspiracy: Conspiring to deliver me to the authorities. I have been betrayed so graciously." is referring back to "Planning A Prison Break".. that song is a metaphor for being unhappy with who you are and therefore deciding to change or planning a prison break... so those lines could be about someone threatening to screw up his new start (threatening to screw up the prison break by turning him in) also some lyrics are missing at the end of these.. he says "Blur your eyes (Romeo) Bend the lines (Romeo) Do you like what you see? Oh Romeo" |

there's a hidden track at the end of this song where they just keep repeating lyrics from "This Armistice"... its kinda creepy "Oh, how I’ve been teething in light of your misleading. You’ve caused this collapse between The heart and the synapse. Tell me who’s pulling the strings; Tell me who’s that you move for; We’re all puppets We’re all marionettes." |
