I think the reason not many people have posted about the meaning of this or why there have been so many varying opinions on it when it is analyzed is because the point of view is unclear at times. I think it's pretty much just about him getting dumped because he was an asshole, drinking to forget it, and then reacting angrily or in some way that ends up hurting her. |

I never really thought I would be one of those people that thinks DBC songs relate to my life, but this one really seems to. I'm living this right now. Dave Matthews Band is much better than DBC, but Dashboard is definitely climbing in my band rankings. Their lyrics are sick. |

I think this song is about breaking up with someone and then regretting your decision later. When it starts it's kind of seen as a song where you feel bad for the person, but then at "Or at least it seemed so at the time" it takes on a new meaning |

Sillybunny, I like your interpretation, but I disagree. I'm pretty sure Stand Up is referring to a penis, as in an erection. "Feel like a drug cooking in my veins" referring to the veins in a penis filling up with blood, making the erection. "Stand Up" referring to it actually being erect... |
