I can see why you all think its about phone sex, but that would mean that hes touching himself too, which is never mentioned in the song (possibly implied, but w/e). This boy is very fuckin typical, but in a depressing way, he trapped in the hell that is this room, the room which he resides in nightly, no matter what, and this girl who he finds amusing, intriguing, and sexy, that he can't stop calling. In these situations we all like to think we're in control, laughing at the things that normally would draw us in, but we slowly lose control as these seemingly harmless activities (weed, AIM, getting girlies randy over the phone) become routines. This song reminds me a ton of Pool Shark by Sublime, where he talks about how heroin "used to be so cool" and he might be in control now but "someday I'm gonna lose the war" which we all know he did. No matter the activities we happen to choose to fill up our lives, they all are inevitably our downfall, and in the end we "dont know what we want"
in regards to "youre too young to be this empty girl" there has been a trend that is being noticed recently with each generation of people learning the truth about the "sick world" at younger and younger ages, even in so called sheltered, suburban homes. I think its the internet, and I'm blaming anything or anyone cuz its nothing to blame anyone over. But there are so many of these young and empty girls, who are so dark and amusing and intriguing that us jewish boys cant stop laughing over.

this is a song about the realization that all the values society preaches(manners materialism hygene etc..) are total bullshit and the meaningless of life. just b/c he doesnt uphold the same standards that others do, it doesnt make him any worse of a person. the last 8 lines are there to show that his new frame of mind is that of the homeless(whatever that frame of mind may be, open for interpertation), even tho he isnt. what an amazing song. shai hulud does awesome cover. |

The music in this song hit me like nothing else ever had, I'm yet to hear another song that at first listen heard as good as this one did. The lyrics make this one of the most emotional and relatable songs to have ever been recorded. My best friend never had sex with my girl friend, but the events leading up to it "12 years i held it all together...hung around the kitchen left you deep in conversation i remember i kept thinking that i know you never would...". the heartbreak in this song is twice as bad as any other kind of heartbreak b/c it involved the two people that he loved most on the earth, and now they are both out of his life and love is replaced by hate and sadness. an unforgivable situation that will always be in the back of his head. it is eveident that what hurts the singer the most is the betrayal and loss of his best friend (i know this feeling), girl friends cheat and come and go, but "when you say best friends it means friends forever". there is no redeeming or hopeful finale to this song, the heartbreak lasts forever "you left the frays from the ties YOU severed". there is endless meaning behind every line in this song and i hope someone intriquitely examined it, but the meaning isnt hard to get. beautiful song. |
