love this song!
Are the lyrics not:
"sick in the head, perverse in the bed"?!
i haven't got the booklet to check but i think it would be a great verse if that was the case, their lyrics always make me smile! |

This song is Beautiful! i think Brians written this from the point of view of some lonely old tramp or lonely old man, who's a bit of a perv peeping tom. What i love about this song is that even though it's about someone that would repel most people it makes you really feel for the man. You see things from his point of view - problems with the booze nothing left to lose - and pity him.
These sort of songs of Brians are what people who don't like placebo should listen to, they don't seem to realise that there is more to them than Nancy Boy and actually how talented they are. They're missing out on some beauties! |

maybe he means she's born to Mesmer - as in she is Mesmer's daughter (not for real) just saying she has the "animal magnetism" .
Or she is born to mesmerize , but he cut it short to make it sound better..?
i'd have thought it'd be the first option as i don't think he'd cut a word short |

Brilliant interpretation sepherenia! i think you're right , it's very cryptic isn't it! i think brian loves to write these cryptic lyrics and for people to decipher them, he is such a good writer, and that would tie in with the idea of it being old locals propping up the bar talking about their escapades! |

I read that too! He also said that there wasn't much to do there and the locals said they drink and f***k, so it's written about being in a bar getting drunk with some locals who suddenly become your best friend and then having drunken rants , putting the world to rights etc and then going out and doing something silly or whatever out of boredom, cos there's not much else to do.ican't remember what magazine that was in. when i first heard this though i felt the song had a very european feel to it i don't know why , it made me think of amsterdam or norway or something and when i heard it was iceland i couldn't beleive it, i just think they captured that vibe |

I think he means that the person was always a lucky bastard but yet despite that he has still ended up fucked up. There's always those people who fall in a bucket of shite and come out smelling of roses, so although he was his mate i sense he could have been a bit jealous of this person, but not anymore just feels pity. |

I agree with placeber - thats exactly what i thought about it being the "seine" - i suppose it's like the person who was always good at everything at school - or it could be about a brother or sister - like sibling rivalry - just because he says they're divine may not mean someone he is on love with... but perhaps he has never complimented his sister/brother before through pride or whatever.... |

I think this song is great and definately one of the best on the new album, i love the title too its intriguing and quirky. I think like some of you said above it's about an abusive relationship or just a relationship between two hot headed people who have faught together, hence why he remebers the bad times "your fists"...or maybe the you looked so brown means they've been living rough on the streets and have gone all brown and weathered. Love the way Brian sings this its very dreamy and melancholy - very french i think too! |

| Placebo – This Picture Lyrics

I love this song. I wondered whether the song is about Brian himself. It looked like it was actually him dressed as the girl, hence why her face was obscured, and you can see she has short dark hair. At the end of the video too he turns her photo around and it looks like it's his face. So i think he's saying farewell to a part of himself for a while. He mentions fear of growing old, perhaps he thinks he's getting a bit too old for the dresses! Or perhaps it was during a time in which he was in a relationship with a woman and therefore hung up the dresses for a while, but at the same time he was thinking but why should i? - ie: "What's wrong with this picture" Just another interpretation....I love it though it's a great song. |
