This to me is a coming of age song about someone who is on the line between childhood and adulthood. He fears who is becoming and he can't stop it, he doesn't want to take the next step in life. The ROUGE is himself as an adult and he feels that adult life is a joke that no one laughs at. He doesn't want to become like everyone else he wants to keep his youth. The last part of the song says to me that he might be under pressure from someone else to change or grow up. He is having tough time dealing with the pressure and tries to kill himself but it doesn't work out. |

This was the first song I heard from the Shins and it has stuck with me ever since. I tired playing this song in front of some of friends and they looked at me like what the heck is this? They didn't get it. So it just goes to show that some people can't relate to the Shins lyrics. Shins fans stick together. Go Shins!! |
