Beautiful McMansions.... About overcommercialism again. Its talking about how chain-companies such as McDonalds are treated in an almost god-like manner. |

"And I'm looking through the glass Where the light bends at the cracks And I'm screaming at the top of my lungs Pretending the echoes belong to someone Someone I used to know" I get the rest of the song but not this. "Pretending the echoes belong to someone...someone I used to know"?? Echoes....? I don't get it, could someone explain these lyrics for me because its annoying understanding the rest of the song except these lyrics. And why "..screaming at the top of my lungs"?? Is this because he is terrified of what is going on outside or is this some sort of crazy metaphysical stuff to do with the echoes etc...? I'm really confused over these lyrics. By the way, The Shins cover of this song IS good (its a great new - but simple - take on an incredible song) BUT I think they almost ruin it in a way but saying 'silhouetteswhenourbodiesfinallygo" really really fast. If anything these lyrics should be elongated and really "pushed" into the song. Still, really great cover. In fact, its really fun to play any of the postal service's songs on an acoustic guitar, just singing to yourself. No fancy solos - just plain simple chords. I find it really relaxing. But whatever, Postal Service are just incredible and so original and the lyrics...ahh...SO GOOD! Really gets me thinking, their songs. Better than Death Cab for Cutie which, for me, is a bit droney and samey, slow easy piano and too emo-like for me. |
