Stagger Lee is actually the most written about character that was never originally created in a novel, short story, film etc. His entire character is created from his appearance in different songs by different bands over the years. There was a book on this somewhere, can't remember it though. Still, great song. |

Frankly I think the man is God. More so than the devil because of the line about being a microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan. God has the devine plan set out or is known for it far more than Satan. It speaks of the cynical nature or opinion of God. The story of Job comes to mind. He offers you salvation and love but in the end you feel a whole lot of pain and are told it's all your fault in the first place. Yet we all know the feel and struggle against temptation. Nick Cave is a genius though, brilliant lyrics. |
