Massive Attack – Pray for Rain Lyrics 13 years ago
I think the people who's necks crane have emerged from some catastrophe. A system failure that left behind a deep and lasting impression on the collective psyche.

The dull residue of what once was is what is left after the event has shattered the living as they confront the world that was once teeming with swirling doves, or life.

And their eyes change, they see the world differently now that the world they new is no longer a reality. Their new reality brings challenges that they have to learn to overcome.

A prayer for rain is symbolic of the peoples lost hope that they now need to find a reason to keep living in a world they no longer recognize. The old rules they lived by no longer apply.

The people find the will to survive and life continues as hearts and wings commence to beating.

"What's unseen with all believing"

Again, the people see the world in a completely new way as the world they knew no longer exists.

Drops on rocks fall fast and fleeting. Could be reinforcing the idea that the people have found hope, a reason to keep living, or it could be that peoples hope is failing fast and slipping away.

With no system of laws to govern over the people, the more fundamental laws confront them in this new world. Either laws of survival forcing them to do things and behave in ways that never would have been tolerated in the old world, or in this new world we abandon our old way of thinking and turn to a more basic "golden rule" law that usher us into a new world.

The will to live in the people and the world is a circle of life all unending and all completing.

The song to me is about hope as we survive the world we once knew and discover a new way to live.

Beautiful song. Struggling with existentialism at the moment. Seems to be a fitting song.

Beautiful song. I get lost in the melody of his voice with the instruments and beats.

I think it's about falling in love with someone, but fearing that love won't be returned.

Faith No More – Last Cup Of Sorrow Lyrics 15 years ago
OK, I've liked this song for a long time but never really understood the lyrics until today. What I get from it is it is a proposal to move on from what ever it is that holds you back from reaching you potential.

"This is getting old and so are you", just reminds me of hearing someone complain about the same situations they get them selves in over and over again.

"So raise it up and let's propose a toast to the thing that hurts you most", he suggests that you acknowledge what it is that holds you back, what ever it is, an addiction, bad relationships, something that happened in your past that haunts you.

"It's your last cup of sorrow. What can you say? Finish it today", so get it out, confront your issues rather than side step them and have to deal with them later. Why hope for a better tomorrow when you can change it all today.

"You might surprise yourself", well you might surprise yourself.

Anthrax – What Doesn't Die Lyrics 17 years ago
"And so hard to remember things
Like when we used to kill our kings"

Always pops in my head every time I see news about some white collar criminal. The lyric gives me a satisfying feeling that no matter what, we could hold those in power accountable for their decisions… at least in the past that is. To me the song has to do with politics, the culture of unaccountability it fosters, and the direct action we are still capable of.

Origin of the code. The "select" will select the second player into the game. A,B is in reverse order in the song name. I would like to think 2 players has something to do with the meaning of the song, but the song was originally called "Interlude".

Soundgarden – Head Down Lyrics 19 years ago
It was written by Ben Shepard. The picture in the book and the title make me think of depression. Maybe it has to do with acts of submission. Prayer, birth, pain, sadness, and shame. I don't think it's a sad song though. Just keep your head high and sing to "a song you like".

Līve – Lakini's Juice Lyrics 20 years ago
I always thought the song was about questioning our history and where it has lead us as human beings. Yes I see over indulgence, but in the second verse my take was that the rivers become so polluted that the water from the toilet was cleaner to use to wash ones feet. He sees that everything we (as humans) touch turns to crap and he want's change or just to be blind to it so he can live happy.

Head down. I always thought about how people avoid eye contact when your walking around. People stairing at their feet rather than looking up. I always thought it had to do with low self-esteem and how music makes you feel good.

It is about Ty Cobb. You should watch the movie 'Cobb' with Tommy Lee Jones in it to get a feel for what he was about.

Scott Weiland – Barbarella Lyrics 20 years ago
Was he on heroin when he made this album? I thought he made this while he was in jail. To me it's like he is admiting that what he does is hurting everyone around him and he wants to stop but can't. He wants someone to save him in this song. (Thats my take on it.)

In the movie Barbarella, the character discovers the pleasure of sex and kind of whores her way around trying to find Durand Durand and stop him from using his "destructo ray" (I can't remember what it was but it was bad.). Along the way she meets an angel who can't see and lost the will to fly. She makes love to him and he regains his will. He flys her around and they are pursued by these evil flying things. Barbarella shoots them down. On and on. Barbarella saves the day. Its a terrible movie, but terrible like the Evil Dead is terrible. It's great.

Helmet – Pure Lyrics 20 years ago
I was listening to Helmet in HS so a lot of the songs I relate to the idiots to worried about their image and not enough to learn a little discipline to hold down a job.
No one is going to war for Ambercrombe & Fitch, but it sure was important that they be seen wearing it every day.

I think this song is about people whos personality is made up solely on name brands and praise from others who value material things way too much.

Team Sleep – Blvd. Nights Lyrics 20 years ago
Reminds me of a person with no self respect, or an addict.

The last word in the song is 'loose' after "I know how you are".

I keep thinking of "The Perfect Storm" right before the waves come down on Mark Wahlbergs character. I think this song is a story and not so much about a particular event.

Helmet – Overrated Lyrics 20 years ago
I think it's an anthem to letting the years pass you by never doing anything for yourself. Remembering when you were having the time of your life not knowing what to expect. Then pulling your work shirt on and heading out the door again. No one made you choose the life you live, and there is on one to hate for your regrets.

Helmet – I Know Lyrics 20 years ago
The first two lines of the song are actually:
Waifer thin
The waif is in
I don't know exactly, but I feel like this song is about people who have strong opinions about things they have never experienced in life. The imagery used brings to mind a poor woman or man living under a puritan way of life, where it is preached that hard work is the reward by others that had things given to them. Spreading their beliefs and crushing the opposition. I think the song is about someone so convinced that their point of view is the only one, the only way to get away from them is to agree with them, even if you don't.

This is one of my favorite songs on Betty. I signed up so I could correct this lyric.
