In the remix CD there's a second verse: you've found him, that's what you say and we all want you to feel that way the frog you've got seems cute enough to kiss but maybe frogs seem like that's all there is and just because you haven't found your prince yet doesn't mean you're still not a princess and what if your prince comes riding in while you're kissing a frog, what's he gonna think then? | Do any of you know what a god complex is? It's a sort of subconscious state of mind that you're God--that you're better than everyone and the world revolves around you. I think it's metaphorically speaking. I think he's using the concept of being conceited and jealous and saying that that's what brought his downfall--that's what's feuling his gun--which is implied by the bullets and "cock it and pull it". It's mixing the two themes, and it gets confusing when you try to look at it too literally. Most lyrics don't make total sense. You've just got to get the implied concepts. | |

What strikes me most about this song is how alone he is. It never mentions another person... not even his "lover"... just their clothes and letters. It's all inside himself. It's all this hurt and despair... he doesn't blame anyone, he's not thinking about it too hard, he's just FEELING. That's it. There's no one else around. Not his lover, not his friends, not another girl... it's just himself. And memories. It's the picture you get of driving home from work with the radio blaring but you can't even hear it. You go home without a word to an empty house and just stand in the middle of the living room looking around you, trying to make sense of life. It's a lonely, lonely song; but it's a necessary loneliness. The kind you need after a tough break-up to wallow and cry. It's before you start picking up or moving on or fixing your heart. You can't do anything but hurt for a little while. You can think about how to move on later. |
